Piper Lancaster

Thomas runs up to me, his pace slowing down when he sees Owen. More specifically when he sees me in Owen's arms. I can see Thomas lips curl up. I take a step in front of Owen.

"Where are they? Are they on their way here?" I ask Thomas, my voice embarrassingly raspy. Thomas is still staring at Owen as though with murderous intent.

"Thomas!" I snap. Thomas looks at me, his eyes softening.

"Yes, they are nearby. I heard them howl a few moments ago. Knowing you were outside, I rushed out here to find you." He explains.

"You knew I left the house?" I ask. Thomas looks at Owen again, his eyes showing understanding.

"Yes. I figured you knew what you were doing. I trusted you to make your own decisions." Thomas hints. I close my eyes at the truth. He trusted me and I returned his generosity by running into danger with no aforethought.

"No time for explanations at this moment, we must return to the house. It is safe with wards. Your mate can join you." Thomas rushes, turning to leave. I feel Owen stiffen next to me as if Thomas words physically hurt him. I take a step forward but Thomas' words register in my mind.

"Mate?" I ask. Thomas turns around immediately, looking at me with wide eyes. His gaze drifts to Owen who still hasn't moved. He opens his mouth to say something but another howl rifts through the silence, the sound much closer than before.

"Let's move!" Thomas yells. I run after him not worrying about Owen who is remaining a few steps behind me. I hear a short growl causing me to risk a glance behind me. I turn and see that Owen has shifted. He runs up to my side.

Get on my back! I hear his voice. My heart skips a beat. There is no way I heard his voice in my head.

Piper! I hear his voice again and I don't question it. At least not in this moment. I grab onto his fur and throw my leg over his back. As soon as I am secure, Owen sprints into the forest catching up to Thomas who has already shifted and waiting for us. I keep an eye open throughout the cracks of trees. I begin to think that we can make it back to the house as I see the light sprinkle through the tree.

We finally make it to the clearing when I feel something hot and hard hit my back. I cry out in pain as I land hard on the ground, Owen collapsing next to me. Some of his fur is singed. I can't see a cut but all I see is blood.

"Owen?" I try to say but my voice isn't able to make out the word. I hear a growl and see Thomas' brow fur coat next to me. I look over my shoulder and see a flame dancing around the trees, walking back and forth as if it couldn't take another step towards us. It looks familiar. I've seen it somewhere. I notice that we are close to the house. We must be inside the ward.

The creature is the same one that tried to hurt me and the pups weeks ago. A djinn is what it is called. I get up on my feet and walk over to Owen.

      Owen?

      I'm- I'm here.

    Rhina, are you okay?

I'm fine... His voice is slurred and the volume decreased.

"Owen!" I say out loud this time. His eyes remain close. I try to remember what I did to heal Jun and I see my fingers light up. I try to find Owen's wound but there is too much blood. Soon my hands are soaked and shaking. I find the wound and put all the power I can into my magic. Why is my heart racing so fast? Why am I terrified? Something is humming inside my chest. And it is not okay. It is pissed.

I look over and see the djinn still hovering by the ward, a couple of red-eyed werewolves stalking around as well. The fire around the djinn dims and there is standing a man. His thin hair is white and long, reaching his hips. His eyebrows and eyelashes match, except for his eyes which are a plain brown. He wears a dark red robe, easily can be mistaken for a dirt brown, but the small sewn intricacies give away the warmer tone.

"For someone so unforgiving of a powerful kind, you use them to your advantage. Am I incorrect, Mr. Cryus?" His English pure and smooth. I hear Thomas growl next to me, but I keep my hands on Owen. My eyes on the djinn. He walks to line of the ward disgust curling up his lip.

"These wards are not of your own making. Tell me, what witch did you have to threaten to mend these wards? To force them to keep away kinds like I?" The Djinn questions. I feel Owen's breath lift my hands up and down, but too slowly. My anger seems to steepen with each breath. Thomas shifts beside me, his body absent of any fear. His posture reassures dominance and it brings a feeling of peace and pride to me.

"Being what you are is of no consequence to me. However, what you stand for... more importantly who you stand by is what drives my decisions. There is no threatening. Your master is not welcomed in any pack or coven. That is a mutual agreement." Thomas taunts.

The Djinn snarls when Thomas mentions the word master. The wolves bark in agreement to the djinn's anger. The Djinn moves his attention to me. I force myself to remain impassive but the feeling in my chest is only growing in hatred. He hurt Owen.

"Ah, young love. I have seem to hurt a young match. I am not sure how your father would take the news, dear Piper. He thinks you are too young to be making such rash decisions. Hearing how he is a Mona would only add the fuel to his disappointment." The Djinn purred.

"I'm tormented by the idea." I snap. The Djinn only smiles at me, clicking his tongue. Thomas snarls.

"You don't talk to her." Thomas spats. The Djinn ignored him.

"You hurt your father very badly, Piper. We were all very upset because of his injuries but your father was only mesmerized but your power. He was very proud."

"What do you want from me?!" I shout, desperate for some answers.

"That is a very simple answer. Your magic. Your entity. You."
