Loki only takes a minute in the toilets so we get plenty of time to talk. "Do you believe Sam?" I ask as soon as he steps out of the door. He jumps and stares at me.

"What's it got to do with you?"

"We're teammates. Her worries are my worries," I say. "And all that other crap Libby spouts. You can tell where she's got that from."

"Ah, yes. The Captain and his metal-armed boyfriend."

"Her parents, yes," I roll my eyes. "At least they loved her. Did your parents ever love you?"

"My mother did. I suspect that my father didn't. He always treated me as inferior to his precious Thor," Loki sneers.

"I know the feeling." I sigh. I don't want to explain but Loki looks at me, confused. Of course. I'm an only child. He probably thinks- like the rest of the world does- that my parents were kind and caring. "Their secrets always came first. They have many of them. They don't tell me anything, I have to find out from hacking their files."

He laughs. "I like you, Stark or Banner or whatever you decide your last name will be."

"I like that," I smile. Getting to choose my own name. Ruby...I'm not sure now I think about. I've been defined by who my parents are for so long, wanting freedom, that I've never thought about who I am now. "Call me Ruby--uh..."

"Stuck?" He smiles at me and ruffles my hair. "It'll come to you, kiddo."

We start to walk back in silence to the car. Ally is already in the drivers seat, her fingers drumming impatiently on the wheel. "C'mon, Stark," she calls as soon as she sees me. "Sam's getting annoyed."

"I'm not annoyed," Sam yells from the backseat. "Libs, tell her that I'm not annoyed and that Ally is making shit up."

"I won't get involved," Libby says in exasperation. I smile slightly. The sigh and the look on her face reminds me of the look on Steve Roger's face when Tony gets into an argument with someone and Steve gets involved. They're usually on opposing teams.

"I'm here now," I say as I slide into the car. Loki gets in the back, making Libby move over with a cold-eyed glare. Ally glances at me with a strange look in her eyes.

"Yeah," she mutters. "You are."

And off we drive.
