Avengers: Daughters

Twenty: Ally POV

Ruby is singing. Again.

It is so bad and so loud and somehow Sam has fallen asleep. Libby has her earphones in so she's okay. But me and Loki are screwed.

"Rubes, can you quieten down?" I ask, wincing.

"Why?"

"You're very loud," I say. I know if I mention that she's also terrible, I'll get thrown out of the car or, worse, treated to an even worse hour of singing.

"Kay."

We sit in silence for a while. Then Loki leans forward. "So, what's really happening here?" He asks. "Have you actually got a plan or are we just going to drive around for all eternity?"

"We have a..." Ruby glances at me. We don't have a plan. We have an idea. Different things. "We have a destination."

"Great," Loki leans back. "You know where you're driving. Well, that was more than I was expecting anyway."

I open my mouth, about to reply with some smart ass comment about his planning skills (the whole taking over the world thing was a bust) when the car flips over.

It skids on its top, hurtling across the empty road. Then it stops, teetering precariously at the top of the cliff the road is on. I scream, clenching my teeth as something cold rips into my stomach. I don't know what it is. Air bags blow up in our faces but they don't much good. The spikes of glass from the window pop them. Sam is awake and Loki is checking her for injuries.

"Nobody move," Libby says quickly. "We don't want to overbalance the car."

"Mm," I groan as my hands come away from my stomach red.

"Shit, Ally," Libby says.

"Language," Ruby says quietly, a faint smile on her face. She has blood running from her face and her legs look stuck.

"Loki..." I say. "Can't you use your magic?"

He looks at me, frowning. "I...I lost it."

"What? When- oh, don't tell me. Now isn't a great time," Sam mutters.

Then the car falls.
