Within the campsite that night, Zaius and Marcus stood as the apes kept working on the memorial.
"So Ursus and Aldo have lost Caesar and the others?" asked Marcus.
"They have, but I have faith that they will catch up with them." answered Zaius.
As Zaius and Marcus talked about the plans one of the apes at the very top of the memorial began to feel exhausted.
"Get back to work!" commanded one of the guards, lifting a whip into the air and bringing it down upon the ape's back.
"P...Please, I'm... so tired." muttered the weak ape.
"Back to work!" commanded the guard again "Caesar commands it!"
The tired and weary ape turned back around to chisel on the memorial, but after nine heavy pounds with the chisel the ape fell backwards from the top of the memorial and to his death.
"They're working hard." said Marcus.
"For now." answered Zaius, as guards surrounded the body of the ape to dispose of it.

Underneath the thick foliage of the forest Cornelius, Zira and Maurice rode their creatures. Maurice, catching a familiar smell in the air, stopped for a moment and turned to face hollow tree within a small opening of the forest.
"Maurice, what's wrong?" asked Cornelius.
"Nova has been here." replied Maurice "She's still alive."
Maurice, without hesitating, rode in a different direction than the campsite. Cornelius and Zira followed behind as winged creatures, hung from the tall trees with both Ursus and Aldo mounted upon them.
Once Maurice hit the clearing he stopped dead in his tracks by a large clawed foot. Maurice, butted from his ride, fell to the ground on his back as the creature peered down at him. But before the creature could vicariously attack, another of the creatures landed beside of it, revealing to Maurice Ursus and Aldo riding on top of them.
"Ursus! Aldo!" shouted Maurice "What are you doing?!?"
"You knew we were coming, don't play dumb." laughed Aldo, jumping off of his creature.
"Maurice!" called Cornelius, riding into the clearing with Zira following close behind.
"Cornelius, Zira, stay back!" Maurice warned as Ursus approached the old orangutan.
"Ursus?" gasped Zira.
"We knew you were following behind us, but how you managed to get this far is beyond me." joked Cornelius.
"Funny joke Caesar." chuckled Ursus, sadistically "But the joke's are over. Get off those things now or the elder one dies!"
"Don't do it Cornelius, just turn around and go to the campsite." begged Maurice, as Ursus took the spear off his back and pointed at Maurice's throat.
Cornelius, not wanting to see his friend murdered reluctantly climbed off his creature and let it run back into the trees.
"You as well." demanded Ursus to Zira, clutching the spear even harder and moving the point closer to Maurice's throat.
Zira climbed down from her creature and let go just as Cornelius did.
"Let him up." Cornelius commanded.
The vile gorillas followed Cornelius' order and forcefully got Maurice on his feet, tossing him to Cornelius and Zira.
"What do you want with us?" asked Cornelius, helping Maurice to his feet without force.
"Zaius ordered us to keep you from getting to camp." answered Aldo.
"In fact, we were specifically ordered to just let the monsters on this island keep you from getting to camp." Ursus corrected.
"So you're the ones responsible for those things attacking us!" shouted Zira.
"That's right." chuckled Ursus "And now we're going to take you to the worst one of them all... Kong."
