Chapter 6

That evening, back at the camp, some of the apes began questioning where Ceasar had gone. Zaius kept a close watch on all of them, making sure not to arouse any suspicions.

"Sir." said Marcus, stepping into Zaius' tent.

"Ah, Marcus, welcome." Zaius greeted "What sort of news do you bring me?"

"I found Maurice, and I have Ursus and Aldo following Ceasar." informed Marcus.

"Good, good." chuckled Zaius "And the girl?"

"I blew up the ship." smiled Marcus "The human is gone."

"Good." said Zaius "Maurice should have known he couldn't have kept any secrets from me. If we're going to start a revolution then it should be done right."

Zaius and Marcus stepped out of the tent to watch the other apes at work.

"What do we do if they start to wonder?" asked Marcus.

"I've already got it under control." said Zaius "Everyone! Listen! Listen to me!"

The apes stopped their labor and turned their attention to Zaius.

"You may have noticed that Ceasar has not been seen for quite some time today. Well not to worry, because he is out there on an important mission and he has left me in charge. When he returns he will have nourishments for all of you. So please, continue with your work."

Zaius and Marcus walked back towards the tent, but they were stopped by one of the male apes.

"Ceasar isn't the only one who has gone missing doctor." said the ape "My sister, Zira, has yet to return as well."

"What is your name?" asked Zaius.

"Ziwi." answered the ape.

"Well Ziwi," started Zaius "I have some of the best generals out there right now. I'm sure she will be fine."

"Thank you sir." said Ziwi "I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to her."

Meanwhile, near the now destroyed ship, Zira and Ceasar step off their horses and look around for Maurice.

"Over there!" shouted Zira, running towards Maurice, who was laying face down in the sand behind a rock.

"Maurice?" said Ceasar, following behind Zira and helping Maurice up "Maurice, what happened? How did the ship get destroyed?"

"I-It was..." Maurice gasped "It was Marcus..."

"Marcus?" questioned Ceasar "Why would Marcus come all the way out here to destroy our ship?"

"It's Zaius..." began Maurice "He, Marcus, Ursus and Aldo are plotting a coup against you. Zaius sent them after me. Marcus ended up catching up to me and knocking me unconscious. He ordered Aldo and Ursus to follow behind you."

"I don't see them anywhere..." said Ceasar "or smell them. But I'm not worried about that now. What I'm worried about is getting you back to camp. Can you walk?"

"I'm afraid not." groaned Maurice "Marcus seemed to have broken my legs while I was out."

"Help me get him on the horse." said Ceasar, as he and Zira helped the old ape off the ground and over to the horses "We're going to get you home. And Zaius will pay for his treason."

"I hope you're right." Maurice uttered, lifting himself onto Ceasar's horse.

Together, Ceasar and Zira rode back towards the direction of the camp leaving the destroyed ship behind.
