Zander's POV
I was walking down the school hallway that led out to the garden where I nearly bump into two girls that decided they wanted to block my path.
"Um..excuse me, but could you girls please move? I'm trying to get to the garden." I asked as politely as I could without sounding annoyed.
The first girl grinned evilly at me. "You're friends with Milly right? The Pink-haired Devil?" she asked.
Now I was just confused. Why was she looking at me like that? Why were these girls even talking to me to begin with? And what did they want with Milly? "Yeah, why?"
"Okay I'm assuming you were sick or whatever since I didn't see you at the assembly yesterday, but Milly got on the mic and told LITERALLY EVERYONE in school that she's 'Non-Binary' now. Goes by They/Them pronouns apparently." She explained as her friend began snickering next to her.
I simply shrugged. "Oh okay, good to know."
Her friend stops laughing as they both looked at me with puzzled looks on their faces. "Y-you're not like...disgusted or weirded out by it or anything?"
"Why should I be? I mean, I can't really change what they choose to identify as. In fact, I'm proud of them for discovering their true identity. Now if you'll excuse me..." I say as I pushed past them to continue my walk.
I was still relatively close to them when I heard the second girl say: "Amber...you know that's the gay kid, right?"
A/N: To all the Ambers who are actually nice and supportive that are reading this, I'm very sorry if I offended you! This was just the first name my brain thought of.
"Huh... No wonder Milly's like this now. He must have influenced her." Amber responded.
THAT'S IT. I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BULLCRAP!
I could practically feel the steam coming out of my ears as I spun back around to face them again, fixing them with probably the coldest glare I have ever given anyone before. "THEM! THEIR PRONOUNS ARE THEY/THEM. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER YOU LIKE THEM OR NOT, YOU SHOULD STILL USE THEIR PREFERRED PRONOUNS. AND IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY USE THE WRONG ONES AND SOMEONE'S TRYING TO CORRECT YOU? YOU LET THEM." I yelled.
By now everyone in that hallway had their eyes on the three of us, mainly me. Those who were getting stuff out of their lockers close to me had backed off a great distance. Some had taken out their phones to record, while others just stared at us in shock. Eh, whatever. I could care less about what they're doing right now.
I took a few moments to breath and calm down my anger as the others watched in anticipation. Once I could trust myself to speak again without lashing out, I decided to give them one more final warning. I stepped a little closer to the girls before saying my next sentence.
"Oh, and I suggest taking my advice to heart. That is, unless you want this he/him to turn both of you into a were/was..."
That was the final straw. The girls took off running in the opposite direction as the hallway fell silent. Suddenly I hear a familiar laugh echo in my ears. Only then did I take notice of a certain hot-pink haired teenager practically dying on the floor with laughter in front of me-
"Oh my gosh that..that was amazing!" Milly manages to stutter between laughs as they wipe away a tear. "You should have seen their faces!"
I couldn't help but giggle along as I lend out my hand for them to take. "I'm surprised that they felt threatened by that last bit. That was honestly my worst threat ever."
Milly accepts my hand gratefully and lifts themselves up while still trying to recover from their laughing fit. "Are you kidding? They looked absolutely terrified!" They give me a quick hug around the waist. "But in all seriousness though, thanks Zander. I owe you one."
"No problem Mil!" You wanna go to the garden with me?" I smile. I check my watch and my smile drops as there was only a few minutes before the bell rang. "Actually-"
"Sure, let's go!" Milly cuts me off by grabbing my hand and dragging me across the hallway with them.
Seriously, why does everyone keep dragging me around like a rag-doll!? I decided against arguing with them though, since there's no reasoning with Milly anyway. At least I won't be spending my Friday afternoon in detention alone.
