DEVI BHATT

"So..." Kai breaks the silence in the car as I drive. "Are we going to address the elephant in the room?"

I stretch my neck, attempting to soothe the slow ache in my shoulders as I tap my fingers along the steering wheel of this rusty mustang. It's going to be a shame to crash it somewhere soon. I look over to Kai, who sits in the passenger seat and is looking at me expectantly. "I don't see an elephant in the room," I lie.

"Yeah," Kai snorts, "and I'm the president of America."

On the way out, we had an altercation. Here's how it went.

When I leave the room, I see a dark figure in the hallway making me freeze in my tracks. Kai bumps into me behind.

"Oh fuck," Kai whispers.

"That's it. Fuck it, I am so fucking done with shit, I just want to leave for god sake," I growl.

"Shit, Devi wait–" he tries grabbing my arm but I shake it off. "Guys." He calls for the other two but right now they can't and will not stop me.

With anger growing inside of me like an avalanche, I storm up to the dark figure ready to knock and kill the hell out of them. I don't care about the little pieces of glass and metal stabbing into my feet with every step I take. I don't care that I'm walking to them with not a weapon in my hand. I don't care. I want this over with, fast and right damn now.

"Hey, you!" I shout, grinding my teeth.

They turn their head and I see the glint of metal in their hands. Great, they have a gun. It's fine, because when they point it to me I knock it the fuck out of their hands, and wrap my hands around their fault.

It's not until they choke I see their grey eyes, realising who she is. Her mere presence is almost enough to send me spiralling back to that night at the annual gala.

"Why the hell are you here?" I hiss.

I don't give her a chance to answer.

I slam her head against the wall, her body crumpling to the floor, knocking her out cold. Not so tough now are you? I almost say.

Wiping my hands on my hospital gown, I turn around, facing some shocked faces. I click my fingers, then point to her, "carry her, she's coming with us."

"What on earth are we going to do with her, Devi?"

Looking in the rearview mirror, I see her slumped body, moving side to side in this rackety car. Her wrists are tied together and so are her feet. Every time, she swings to the left, Grisha pushes her back to the right but then, she bumps into Pasha who pushes her right back into Grisha. It becomes an ongoing cycle.

"We could push her off a cliff," I suggest.

"There are no cliffs around here," says Grisha. His input is very enlightening.

I look in the rearview mirror at Grisha. "No shit, babe."

Shock spreads across his features before I see him retreat back into himself. I need a punching bag.

"It is very tight here at the back, Devi and I haven't been to the toilet in a fair few days–"

I scrunch my nose up with a tense sigh. "You want to go to the services, Pasha?"
