The ride went by without a hitch. For all the cops prowling around we never did end up getting stopped even once, though they didn't have much reason to believe that who they were looking for would still be anywhere nearby after so much time had passed. With a soft groan the truck slowed to a stop as the engine died down, only for the gentle sound of rain to just begin to rattle against the roof.
"Damn, looks like it'll have to be an indoors chat kids, c'mon." Maine sighs, opening the doors and hopping out along with the others.
Following their lead Lucy and I stepped out behind into the parking lot of some diner. 'Turbo', at least now I had a pretty good idea of where abouts we were. The group had already made their way inside leaving Lucy and I to stand in the rain and stretch our legs, it was shocking how Maine could make the back of a truck of all things feel so cramped.
"Feeling better?" I cock my head, leaning against the truck.
"I think so, yea. It was a lot at first but, I think I could do it again." She smiles, interlacing her fingers behind her head.
"Seasoned marksman now, eh?"
"Just cuz I can do it doesn't mean it'll be a habit." She scoffs, nodding towards the building. "C'mon, lets head in before we get soaked."
"Right behind ya." I finish shaking out my limbs and then quickly jog to close the distance before matching her stride towards the doors.
Opening the doors my ears are immediately blasted by a harsh, grating voice. The diner is completely empty save for a woman running the counter and a single group taking up two booths near the far end, it's not hard to tell where the sound is coming from.
"So you ended up ditching the piss baby or what?" It was a man sitting across from Maine with his back turned to the doorway, gesturing wildly as he spoke. From what I can tell he's got his hair cut into a mohawk, that and the way he talks gives him away as a true born Night City street rat.
"Not quite, ended up being two of em rather than just the one." Maine laughs, leaning back in his seat.
"Greeeeat, a couple of piss babies then. So then what, the gonks run off when they saw ya?"
"Nah, actually the girl was snappin at Maine." Dorio chimes in, grinning as she locks her arm around Maines neck.
"You didn't actually bring those two twerps along for the gig right?"
"Brought us home for dinner and everything too." Lucy interrupts, walking past with a smug grin and slides into the second booth with Kiwi and Falco.
"Said you were buyin too." I grin down at him, leaning over the back of the booth and following along with her bit. As he turns to look up at me with a exhausted expression I can see now that much like the Maelstrom members from before this guys sports a few facial augments as well, a couple of face plates along with a monovisor, not to mention his hands are cyberware too, but more of a finesse upgrade.
"So this is what we're doin now? Pickin up strays, runnin a fuckin daycare or somethin?" He groans, ignoring me and going back to his conversation. I decide to move on and take a seat next to Lucy as the three of them carry on.
"Wouldn't have brought em along if they didn't impress, Pilar. Plus Kiwi vouched for em in the first place, both of em."
"So the Ice Queen likes em young, what's that matter to m-" He jolts upright as his optics spark, sending bolts of electricity down his body as he collapses in his bench, jittering with each shock. Kiwi sighs and shakes her head, eyes dimming after her quick hack finishes. Not a moment later he sits upright, continuing as though nothing happened in the first place. "Anyways, are you sure it's a good idea.
