"How's it commin?"
I let out a sigh, pacing back and forth across the room navigating between the various bodies littering the floor. The gig had been going smoothly thus far, a simple bag job on some Scavenger data, but that didnt make the lull at the moment sit any better.
"It hasn't even been two minutes, I'm working as fast as I can. Besides, theres no one left here, we have time."
"Standing still makes me nervous, you know that."
The woman sitting at the terminal rolls her eyes, blowing a strand of silver hair out of her face as she continues to tear away at the Scavenger's ICE.
"Good things come to those who wait, and who knows, if you behave yourself till I'm done I might even find a treat for you."
"Pfft, bite me. See if I ever watch your back again after you sass me like that, you're starting to sound like I do."
She giggles softly, combing through the final remains of the Scavs network. For such a large outfit you'd think they'd have atleast someone capeable of putting up better security on these terminals. Not that the defences set up were easy to crack, but well, for her they were nothing to blitz through.
"Alright, got it. Three minutes and fifteen seconds, wanna take back your bitchin-"
Before she can finish, a hulking man bursts through the door of the adjoining room, roaring at the top of his lungs as he rushes her. She sucks in a breath through her teeth reaching for her pistol and grazing it with her finger tips, knocking the weapon to the floor. Just as the Scav rushes past the door frame his head explodes into a mess of gore as I fire a shot off into his skull just over her shoulder, rattling her ear drums.
"Yea yea I'm sorry alright. Though in my defence, I clearly had atleast some reason to be antsy."
She slumps in the chair with her shoulders propped on the desk, hands over her ears taking a moment to steady her breathing. Shit, I had time to move, I shouldn't have let that fly so close to her.
"Hey, you with me Luce? Need to delta before NCPD turns up, think you can stand?"
"Yea... yea i just need a minute."
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't hav-"
"You really gonna apologize for saving me?" She scoffs before reaching out. I help her to her feet before turning to clear a way through the appartment complex with her on my heels. There shouldn't be anyone left here, but theres been one exception already. One too many. "It's my fault anyways, I had the chance to zero the freak myself, just... I dunno."
"Relax, I know the iron's not your thing, s'what i'm here for right? You do what you do and I'll watch your back. Besides, you'll get it someday."
"Been sayin that for a lot of days, doesn't feel like its any closer."
"Whinin about not be able to shoot people now? Night city really is gettin to ya."
She's right, Lucy's been running with me for a while now but she's just never gotten the hang of guns, even on the range she's below average at best. She just gets in her own head, not that I blame her, as far as problems go struggling to kill someone is a better one to have. Though if she kicks that fear of guns and ends up getting into the swing of it, shit... If she's half as good at shooting as she is a netrunner, I may have to tone down the sass.
Making our way into the downstairs rooms I slide up to a door riddled with bullet holes, planting my shoulder against it to shove the corpse slumped against the inside of it out of the way. Continuing to the back wall just before reaching one of the barricaded windows I stop in my tracks, small warnings popping up in the periphery of my optics.
