Chapter 30: Long Time

Saturday January 11th, 1992

6:30am

Willie

"248....249.....250!" I said as I finished my pushups. Talk about a way to get the day started. Nothing like a good set of pushups to start the day, man I thought about everything with me and Kelvin, Kelvin said he'd come down to visit me today though so I'm definitely looking forward to that. I went ahead and took care of my daily hygiene and then around 7:15am I went into the living room and turned the radio on while I made my breakfast. Around 7:25am the phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Yo yo what's up man?"

"Hey Rodney, how's it going?"

"Pretty good man, just checking in on you. Haven't seen you outside of school much so I was just seeing if you wanted to hang out?"

"Well in all honesty I've been focusing on football. We have another game next week before we get to the finals."

"True. Y'all gonna bring the trophy home to Bishop Montgomery high." He said.

"You damn right. And other than that I'ma be hanging with Kelvin today."

"Oh that's what's up. So have you and kelvin patched things up yet?"

"Well we are definitely working on it, I can confidently say that."

"Well that's good to hear. So what time is he coming over?"

"He should be here around 9:30 or 10:00am from what he told me when we talked the other night.

"Well that sounds good. I hope it works out between y'all, for real." He said. "Well I'ma go ahead and work on some papers but I'll talk to you later, take it easy." He said, then he hung up.

I spent the next few hours cleaning up and straightening the house up. Around 9:15am it was a knock on the door.

"Damn he's early!" I said. "Who is it?"

"Hey man it's Leon can I come in?" He asked. I thought to myself what would Leon be doing here this early. I opened the door.

"Hey Leon what's up?"

"Not much man, not much. I just want to see if you want to shoot some hoops? Also guess who I have with me?"

"Who?"

"All right man you can come out of the bushes, even though I don't see how it can hide your big ass."

The person who came out of the bushes was definitely a surprise.

"Junior man is that you? Wow it's been a LONG TIME."

"I know, right? It definitely has been and I look a little different, I slimmed down just a bit."

"Yeah man I could definitely see that." I said, pulling him to a bro hug. "How's your family? And how's work been?"

"It's been pretty good man, just taking things one day at a time. My daughter's doing well. She just turned four not too long ago. What about you? I heard about you and kelvin. How's that going?"

"In all honesty I'm waiting for him to come through right now."

"Oh wait you're waiting for him to come through right now? My fault, I did not know." Leon said. "Yo me and Junior can leave & we'll just come back later. Honestly Willie , I didn't know."

"It's cool y'all can come in for a bit but as soon as he gets here y'all gotta bounce."

Me, Leon, and Junior come out and drink some soda and water that we talked for about a good 45 minutes to an hour. After that another hour went by and another hour at this point I was really starting to think that Kelvin would not show up.

It doesn't look like he's going to be showing Junior said. I'm sorry about that man for real, hopefully there is a way you can get a hold of him.

Yeah man you're absolutely right. I said. So do you still want me and Leon to go shoot hoops with you at the basketball court?

Yeah man, anything that helps you get your mind off of Kelvin.

Just as we were getting up and getting ready to go there was another knock at my door.

"Who is it?"

"Open up 88!" Kelvin said. A smile creeped across my face as i got up.

"Well i think that's our cue to go." Junior said as he and Leon got up and went to the door. "It was good seeing you Willie. Now you and Kelvin have fun, but not too much fun." Leon said laughing as he and Junior left.

"Hey, was that Junior?" Kelvin asked as he came in and gave me a kiss.

"Yeash that was him." I said. "Him and Leon came through to see if I wanted to play some ball with them."

"Mhmmm well i got some balls for you to play with." He said as he nibbled on my ear.

Our lips locked passionately as we made out some more and went over to the couch, mhmmm i'm definitely going to enjoy this.
