Chapter 19: Hanging With The Boys

Friday August 2th, 1991

Another day of work, man it's tiresome but it pays well. I turned on the station to 88.5 The Heat and the radio DJ, DJ Ice Fresh on the radio.

"Alright alright we kickin' it on the 1's and 2's, yo that was the fresh, NEW smash hit By The Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff called "Summertime" and don't forget where you heard it 1st and that was 88.5 The Heat! Now let's get into this song by Main Source called "Looking at the front Door!" He said as the song came on.

I sang with the song as it kept on going and i was dancing in front of the mirror. Man it's crazy to think it's just now August, seems like it wasn't that long ago since 1991 started, and now the year is almost over. Man, alot's happened in the past seven months, i got my own place, job, and a new boyfriend, lost a girlfriend in Danyelle but gained her friendship, became good friends with Leon, and alot more. It was a knock at the door, i wonder who it could be. I went over to the front door and looked at the peep hole and seen it was Leon.

"Yo what's up L?"

"I'm cool just swingin' by to see what's going on with you, shoot i got a day off so i'm just seeing if you wanna chill, play some Madden?"

"Ugh dude you already talking about Madden, oooh i forgot Football season getting ready to start again."

"Yeah not only that but i got John Madden Football '92 and i want to see what all the hype for it is about. I brought the game system over and all man."

"Nigga fine, hook it up to the TV." I told  him laughing.

We played Madden until 1pm, which was cool. During the game it was this funny sequence, whenever a player got injured the ambulance would come in and knock all the other players down like bowling pins.  We played three games and i beat him in all 3, he looked at me and gave me a playful punch to the arm.

"Dude really, when you get good at video games?"

"Well i've played some at the arcade in the mall when i don't have much to do." I told him. "So let's talk bro, how's things going with you and Melanie? Also what's going on with Chris?"

"Well me and Melanie cool, i mean real cool, we hook up off and on, nothing official. And as far as me and chris, he's like a brother to me, he's doing alright, he's been adjusting alot better the past few months, Which is good." Leon told me. "It's good, Melanie and Chris are getting along which is cool, i mean that's definitely a good thing, especially if she's going to be in my life more." 

"If???"

"Yeah, me and her have been talking and taking things slow for the past few weeks and i'm into her, i mean like her."

"Hold up what do you know about her and what does she know about you?"

"Well i told her alot about me, my past and all."

"Well what do you know about her?"

"I know about her life, her favorite color, her favorite foods to eat and all."

"Is she married?"

"I didn't ask her, i don't think she is though."

"You don't think? You got to know these things, i mean let's be honest, you're screwing a girl and you don't know if she's married or seeing someone else? I mean you got to be careful, i mean you could catch something or you could fuck around with her and get caught up in something." I told him, i was genuinely concerned. He looked at me and rolled his eyes. "Don't roll your eyes now, come on i'm telling you the truth, you already know this."

"I know and i was going to get around to it but...."

"You can't say but, you got to do it!" I told him.

"You're right man you're right. Thanks for the advice man."

We talked and hung out some more, he left around 3:30pm and then i sat down and relaxed and watched a little bit of TV, then around 5pm i got up and called Kelvin and after a few rings he answered.

"Yo what's up 88?" 

"Nun, what's good with you boy?"

"Just chilling, just getting ready for work, got a late night shift to cover tonight."

"Well i was wondering what you had planned for the weekend?"

"To be honest i don't know yet, why what's up? You gonna come up here to visit me or somethin' Willie?"

"Awww something like that." I Told him honestly.

"Well i'll be looking forward to it, you gonna gimmie a kiss when you get here?"

"I plan on it."

"What else you gonna do?"

"Well we'll see what happens when i get there." I told him. We talked and joked and laughed a bit more before we hung up. I can't wait to see what this weekend brings.
