Adrian pushed everything off his desk. He was angry at himself. How could he let his guard down like this? How could he let someone play him? Since when did he get this bad at reading people? He was better than this, he was better than thinking that he was doing something very wrong.
"Mira, you will not play me, and get away with it. If I have to suffer because of you, you will suffer along with me. In holy matrimony, we will both bond. And then, all that awaits you is a lifetime worth suffering." He said to himself and poured himself a glass of whisky looking at a picture. Then he chuckled,
"I am kidding myself, am I not? After all, you are the one who had always understood me and my needs. You have been there for me. She cannot understand that..." He heard crashing from somewhere inside his house and without thinking twice he ran towards the sound.
Mira looked at the broken photograph. She was still locked in his room. And she knew he would be angry. But all she was trying to do was to protect him. She has a cursed life. For everyone who ever comes close to her, something bad happens to them. It happened to her mother, no matter how much his father says it wasn't her fault. She was the one for whom she had gone out. How could Mira not blame herself?
Then it was her father, who had fallen prey to her curse. Then she lost the boy she loved. She had loved him most. And then, the one she had intended to marry, was also... She cannot even think about it without breaking down.
Now, she has found love again. Adrian is the one she loves very much. She had realized it in the time they were together. She had seen herself how life can be so good with him, it was nearly perfect.
But she wasn't fortunate enough to have that perfect life. She winced as she picked up the glass. It had cut her finger. Her eyes watered more but she kept picking up the pieces trying to salvage whatever had left of this relationship. She knew it was not much she could have done about it. But for Adrian's sake, she had to play along.
She has already hurt him too much. And she cannot bear to do it anymore. She cannot see the pain and distrust on his face.
"Leave it, before you hurt yourself further. Besides, you need your fingers in order to sign yourself over to me." She heard his voice but didn't stop doing what she was doing. Not until she felt his hand stopping her. She saw blood dripping from both of their hands. He was also hurt. "Let go of it, honey. Don't be a stubborn little thing, I know you think this will prove your innocence but it is only making my anger rise further." He told her in a calm voice.
"So what are you going to do about it? Hurt me? You are going to raise your hand to me? Beat me?" She asked. "Why I would do that for? It will only look our wedding pictures look bad. And besides, I cannot have you telling people that I am a bad husband. I am not, I have been here before, done this already. And she didn't complain a bit."
This time Mira was the one who was shocked and she left the piece of glass and it fell onto the floor. Adrian pulled out a key and turned it into the lock of the handcuff. If fell down as well. "You were married before?" Mira asked. "Yes, I was married to a beautiful woman that owned my heart," Adrian replied not looking at her. He pulled out the first aid kit and started to clean her cut. "That will not need stitches. So you are all set for tomorrow." She pulled her hand back from his grip.
"If you were married before what happened to her? And why do you wish to marry me?" She asked. "She died, and now I am single. I want to marry you, so you will marry me. And no your opinion here doesn't matter, either you marry me or you go to jail for falsifying your identity and infiltrating a government organization over those false credentials. And jail won't be very good for women like you. They do not survive being kind inside places like that." He told Mira in a disinterested tone.
