Day 34. (Present Day)

I wandered back through our base camp and back towards the bus. I guess one upside of having two best friends that are successful Youtubers is that you have a nice, warm tour bus to hijack when the end of the world comes. I held onto rails inside the open door and hauled myself in: wandering over to a bunk and finding Hope nestled in the blankets of her makeshift cot. She opened her eyes and reached out a tiny hand towards me, smiling.

"Oh hello, angel" I cooed and picked her up. She latched her hand onto my St. Christopher putting it to her mouth and sucking on it. I sighed, thankfully it was gold so it wouldn't cause her any harm. She didn't smell too brilliant so I figured she could do with changing. I detached her from my necklace and put her back on the bunk. I walked down the bus and rifled through the storage boxes until I found her a clean change of stuff, I tucked them in the waistband of my cargo pants and then went back to pick her up. I took her into the back lounge where there was a changing mat open in the corner. I laid her down on it, then put the fresh change down beside her. I heard footsteps coming down the bus and looked up at Sam stood behind me gazing down at Hope.

"I'm sorry for flipping out at you, Colby talked to me, I was out of order, I'm just not coping so well right now" He rubbed his neck, and looked at the floor, it was obvious that he felt awkward, and I wasn't about to make him suffer.

"It's okay man, it's not your fault, you've had so much to deal with, you've done so so well" I smiled at him.

"Do you want me to change her?" I know you've become honorary mother to her, but I know Brennen wanted to get us on the move today and there were still a few cars to move off the freeway" I know Sam wanted to help, and this was his peace offering, I think he also missed being a father, and with him being the only guy in the group with any parenting skills, I was happy to allow him to help me. I squeezed his shoulder as I moved passed him and walked off the bus. As I walked out I heard him speaking to her: "Come to me little Lu-" he caught himself "No, that's not you, you're Hope, yes you are" I smiled to myself, he was going to be okay.
