"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" I looked at Colby. I saw the herd shuffle out of the woods towards the direction of the camp. The route that we would normally take back home was now not an option.
"Yep, and I'm not loving it" He replied grimly. I scanned the clearing and just beyond the treeline to our left I could see silos in the distance. Getting high meant being safe.
"You see those silos over there?" I cracked a smile. Colby glanced over and I could see him smiling too. Climbing was something we both enjoyed and had been doing it together whenever the opportunity arose. "Try and stay in the tree line" I whispered to him and we began to pick our way through the woodland towards the silos ahead. The undead were attracted by sound and movement, if we stayed in the shadows of the trees and didn't make too much noise we would be able to slip passed unnoticed. I watched Colby deftly pick his path around roots and branches moving almost silently. I followed closely stepping in his footsteps to minimise noise. After a few minutes, we were far enough away to break into a jog in the direction of the silos. We jogged for just over a mile before coming to a chain link fence. There was already a hole cutaway. Colby pushed against the broken wire and crawled under, before holding it up for me to follow. I scanned around the bleak concrete courtyard, I could see a metal fire escape and a set of steel double doors. Colby was already on it, trying the double doors as I hopped up the fire escape being wary of making too much noise. I pulled the door at the top and felt it give slightly. "Colby up here" I called to him. He joined me at the top of the stairs and I felt the staircase wobble slightly. "I'm not sure how secure this is Colbs" I muttered. "I think you're right there" He replied gripping the door handle as I leaned into it too.
"3...2...1" He counted down on his fingers before we pushed at the door with all our combined strength. The door shuddered and swung inwards howling metallically. I followed Colby inside as we came down a metal staircase bolted to the wall of the warehouse. It was huge.
