Day 34
I lay in my bunk listening to the sounds of the others sleeping peacefully. Well mostly peacefully, Jake was snoring, Brennen was out cold silently smiling, Colby was sleeping face down tapping on the side of his bunk, and Sam was rigid, lying flat on his back, hands clamped in fists. But Aaron, quiet, cute, sweet Aaron, he was not sleeping so well. He was tossing and turning, mumbling, clawing, sometimes crying out, the others were dead to the world, I was the only one who knew about Aaron's nocturnal behaviour. It sounded like he was being strangled: hoarsely trying to cry out a name.
"Alyssa!" He strained against his invisible attacker, his back arching, and all the muscles in his body tightening. And then it stopped, he fell limp, and lay peacefully. This happened almost every night without fail, I heard him every night live out his nightmare, and I never said a word. I was never able to sleep until everyone else was, because if they slept peacefully then I could. I quickly hung over the side of my bed and checked on Hope, she was sleeping quietly too, I've never known a baby sleep so much. But she did. Maybe her dreams were sweeter than the real world we knew now. I knew for sure, mine were. Knowing everyone was safely asleep I turned on my side and closed my eyes, allowing every thought to drain out of my head, I welcomed the darkness that seeped into my mind.
