Change Of Heart

I held tight to Perospero until Big Mom dismissed us from the dining room, and as everyone left, we still sat there together. "YN...? Is everything ok...?" He asked me, his voice soft. "Why... Why is it you're being so polite to me. Why are you being so nice. Especially you of all people." I asked him, still holding tight onto his hand. "Because, YN, you seem like a lovely person. I don't see any reason to hurt my soon-to-be sister-in-law. Why would I even consider that?" He asked me. I winced at those words. 'I can't tell you I'm lying. Never. I'll never admit it. You're probably faking! Don't give into his lies, YN!' I thought to myself. "Or... Whatever you may be to me in the future." He said, smiling a somewhat hopeful smile. "What is it you're implying by that?" I asked. He chuckled a small chuckle. "Ah... I don't really know." He said, shrugging his shoulders. "Judging by the way you're holding onto my hand; I wouldn't be surprised if you chose me to be your husband." He said, winking at me. I immediately then retracted my hand. "I- I'm sorry I didn't realize-" I said, but I was cut off by him grabbing my hand back. "Don't apologize. I don't mind." He said, his expression rather serious. He then smiled at me and lightly squeezed my hand. "There's no problem here. I don't seem to have a choice in it, but from what I know about you, you'd be a lovely wife." He said, smiling sincerely at me. 'Ow, that hurt.' I thought to myself. A transponder snail then began to ring in his pocket. "Ah, sorry YN, I have to take this." He said, taking the snail out of one of his many pockets and he answered. "Perospero here, what's going on?" He asked, his tone changing. "Mama has called you on a mission! You'll be gone for about three days so grab your garbage and get out to the ship!" An angry sounding man over the phone said. "Yeah, ok fine. I'll be there soon." He said, hanging up, then letting out a deep sigh. "Well, YN. I have to be going for now, but I'll see you in three days give or take." He said, smiling at me. I nodded. "Yeah... I'll see you then." I said, not making eye contact with him. He chuckled. "Be safe. I'll see you later." He said, releasing his hold on my hand and getting up from the chair.

As Perospero left the room, I sat there in contemplation. 'I have three days to decide, do I kill Perospero or not?' I asked myself, shaking my head. 'If I don't, then I marry someone in the Charlotte Family and live out the rest of my days as a pirate, which doesn't sound all that bad... If I do kill him, I get enough money to sustain myself for the rest of my life. I can live by myself and never speak to another human soul again.' I thought, staring up at the ceiling. "I have three days to decide..." I thought, even though I had already made up my mind on what I was going to do.

Three days passed, and every day was the same rinse and repeat. I'd go get something out in the city for breakfast, help the maids clean-up for the periods before and after lunch, then I'd go to the dining room and talk to Amande and Cracker for an hour before dinner. During dinner, I'd stare off into space and contemplate the question that would decide the rest of my life, although, still, deep down I knew what I was going to say. At about three-o-clock the day Perospero was supposed to come back, I didn't help the maids out. I sat in my room in a chair in the corner of my room. 'Your boss will send people after you if you do this.' I thought to myself. I then looked down at the ground and smiled. "It's worth it for Perospero, though, my first true friend." I said out loud, excited to see him again. We had only known each other for a day, but the kindness he showed me had surpassed any others except for my parents. 'I certainly hope he's not lying.' I thought to myself, sitting back up. A knock then came from the door. "Come in, it's unlocked." I spoke. The door cracked open and standing there was Amande. "I wanted to let you know, brother Peros is at the dock." She said, a small smile on her face. "He's back?" I asked, rather excitedly. Amande nodded. I dashed over to the door. "Let's head out already!" I said, smiling wide. Amande then nodded. "Of course." She said, stepping out of the doorway.

I had made an important decision that day. I wasn't going to kill Charlotte Perospero. I was going to spend the rest of my life here, and maybe someday try to have my parents move to one of the various islands surrounding Totto Land. I smiled as I dashed down to the dock, Amande trying to keep up with me. I ran through the town, unnaturally excited to see Perospero. I ran as quickly as I could down to the dock and then I laid eyes on the pale man. "Peros!" I yelled, waving to him. Once he saw me, he smiled. "Hey YN! How did it go here?" He asked as he saw me sprinting towards him. I jumped up and pulled him into a tight hug. 'You only have known this man for a day, he's probably freaked out right now.' I thought to myself, but those fears were dashed when Perospero hugged me back. "Well, someone missed me." He said, chuckling a little. "Of course, I did." I said, smiling at the lanky man's presence. "When I first met you, you wanted nothing to do with me. What changed over those three days that I was gone?" He asked me, still holding onto me. "I realized you're not trying to trick me. You're actually trying to be a good person towards me." I said, still holding onto him. "Took you that long to realize?" He asked me in a somewhat joking tone. "Ah, yeah..." I said, still holding on tight to him. Perospero then smiled. He grabbed on tight to me, then lifted me up and held me to his chest. "I assume you don't really want to let go right now, so I'll just carry you inside." He said, smiling wide at me, his cheeks dusted a light pink. I myself, though, was the color of a cherry tomato. "Ah- Ok, yeah... Sure." I said, laying my head on his chest. I heard Amande chuckle. "I finally caught up with you, YN, and this is what I see? Maybe Cracker was right about you two." She said, smirking at me. Somehow, my face became an even darker shade of red. Amande chuckled. "See?" She asked. Perospero then held me a little tighter. "I don't know what Cracker has been saying, but I'll certainly take it up with him later." Perospero said, a rather serious expression on his face.

Leaving his suitcase at the dock, Perospero carried me back to the Whole Cake Chateau. I had my head gently laying on his chest. It was oddly comforting, hearing his heartbeat right into my ear and feeling the vibrations of his voice when he talked. I simply stayed in that position, smiling, listening to him talk about his adventure off on another island in Totto Land. He noticed I wasn't responding, and his expression changed to one of worry. "Is everything ok, YN?" He asked me, his voice soft and comforting. "Has anyone ever told you that you have a wonderful voice?" I asked him, still leaning on his chest. He stopped in his tracks, and I looked up to see his face. He was deeply blushing, and he actually looked rather sad. "Peros?" I asked him, looking up at him still. "No, darling. No one's ever told me that before." He said, giving me a smile. "Then why is it you look so sad?" I asked, concerned for him. He shook his head. "Took me off guard, that's all." He said, smiling at me. "Let's stick together from now on, aye?" I asked him as he walked into the castle. "Yes, lets." He said, beginning to laugh at that statement.
