The Call

Once breakfast was over, I decided to go and do something else before Perospero would bring me out to lunch. I wandered the hallways looking for something to do when I heard a ringing from my room. 'I wonder who's calling.' I thought, unzipping the front pocket of my suitcase and pulling out a baby transponder snail. "This is YN LN, what's going on?" I answered. "YN! Is that you?! Have you finished the mission yet?!" It was my boss from on Kitoto. "Ah... No. Not exactly-" I said in an awkward tone. "Well get it done already! We're losing patience on you here!" He yelled. I grabbed tight to the snail. "You know what... I'm just going to tell you straight up; I am not killing Charlotte Perospero. I've already decided, and I am never going back to Kitoto." I said, my voice sharp. "WHAT?!" He yelled. "Yeah, you heard me right." I said, shaking my head. "If that's really the truth... I'll have to send out others to exterminate you, YN." He said, his tone dark. "And? Do you really think that some low-level assassins could kill me?" I asked, mocking him. I heard him scoff over the snail. "You underestimate your co-workers, YN... Look out for yourself from now on. You and that nasty Charlotte man." He said, hanging up on me. "Nasty Charlotte man? Say that to his face, coward." I said, slamming the snail down on the table. "Who's a nasty Charlotte man?" Cracker asked me, shoving the door open. I jumped around and smiled at Cracker. "Ah... It's just you. How long have you been there for?" I asked. "About five seconds. Why?" He asked, turning his head. I clicked my tongue. "It was a friend of mine. I was telling him about this place, and he called Peros a 'nasty Charlotte man'." I said, shaking my head. "Blech. He sounds disgusting." Cracker said, smirking. I nodded. "Yeah... He really is." I said, leaning on the table. Cracker then nodded back. "Ok, well I'm going to go to the basement and see if the mice colony has grown any more. Peace out." He said, waving to me as he walked out of my line of sight. 'CRAP! He probably heard the whole conversation! What if he tells Perospero- No, Big Mom! I'll be dead meat then even if I have had a change in heart!' I thought to myself, rubbing my temples. 'But Cracker isn't the type to lie about that... He was probably just passing by and heard me angrily say 'nasty Charlotte man'. I doubt he heard anything. Nevertheless, I need to be infinitely more careful about keeping this a secret.' I thought, trying to slightly relieve some stress. I whipped around and looked at the snail. "You..." I muttered. I knew that snail was a direct line to the boss. Me and the four other highest-ranking assassins were the only people who had them. I grabbed the snail, apologized to it, then opened my window and threw it out as hard as I could. "Can't have them tracking me..." I muttered, quickly shutting the window. I turned around and looked back over at the door. 'Ok Charlottes... Sorry about the upcoming trouble.' I thought to myself.

I walked out of my room and began to walk down the hallway back towards the kitchen. 'I wonder how Cracker's mice are doing?' I thought to myself, looking back through the hallway. I went into the kitchen and Perospero was actually sitting in the windowsill looking out over Whole Cake. I slipped behind the side of the door and began to watch him. 'What in the world are you doing?' I asked myself. I shook my head. 'Peros would be fine with it. I just want to watch him right now...' I thought, looking directly at him. I chuckled a little, but then he turned around and saw me. "YN..." He said, smiling at me. I nodded at him. He lightly chuckled. "What in the world are you doing?" He asked, smiling. "I'm wondering the same thing." I said, walking into the room. Perospero chuckled at that comment. "Come on over here, YN." He said, reaching out his arms. I nodded, then walked over and Perospero lifted me into his lap, and we sat in the windowsill. Perospero had his arm around my waist and he had me tucked tightly into his chest. He smiled down at me. "You're such a sweetheart... Catering to my every need." He said, kissing the top of my head. I chuckled. "If wanting to spend time with you is 'catering your every need' then I guess you sure don't need much." I said, smiling up at him. He looked away from me and fake laughed this time. "I'm a Charlotte, darling." He said, shaking his head. I whipped around, pulling out of his embrace. "You don't have to become some emotionless and low-maintenance shell just because you're a Charlotte. Sure, your family is... prominent in Totto Land, but does that really mean you have to act like you're indestructible?" I asked, genuinely worried for him. Perospero shook his head. "It's... many things adding up, YN. I don't really have a say in any of it." He said, his expression changing. I didn't have much of anything to say after that, but Perospero didn't seem to, either. "You worry me, Peros." I muttered, leaning into his chest again. He sighed, but he put his arm back around me. "It's... almost lunch time, YN." He said rather silently. "Yeah... Are we still on for the date?" I asked him, a confused expression on my face. He squeezed me a little. "Yes, yes we are." He said, smiling back at me again.
