The Threat

Dinner that night certainly was interesting. Amande kept looking over at me and I noticed her staring a few times. 'I guess finding out your future sister-in-law is an assassin isn't the best thing to learn.' I thought, trying to stop looking at the threatening face of Amande. Perospero noticed my somewhat tense attitude and he poked my shoulder with his knuckle. "YN?" He spoke. I whipped around in surprise after having stared at Amande for a while. "Ah... Peros. What's up?" I asked him, slightly more comfortable looking at my love. "You didn't seem to be here, did something happen with Amande?" He asked, turning his head. I shook my head. "No, nothing happened." I muttered, grabbing onto my pants legs. He could tell I was lying. "YN. What did she do?" He asked, slightly louder this time. Amande shook her head. "Nothing happened, brother Peros." She said, turning towards him for a moment. He then realized he wasn't going to get any information out of either of us, so he sighed and turned back towards me. "Well... What is it we're doing after we're dismissed from dinner?" He asked, leaning back in his chair. "Hm... Interesting question. We could wander the town some?" I suggested, even though I had had another date with him earlier. He nodded and smiled. "That sounds like a great plan, YN." He said, his expression soft. I nodded then returned his smile. "Ok, cool." I said, turning back to the table and snatching a piece of bread off of the community plate. Amande then glared at me again and dragged her finger across her neck, then mouthed the words "touch him and you're dead". I nervously stuffed the piece of bread in my mouth then turned back to Perospero. He definitely knew something was wrong now, so he grabbed gently onto my shoulder. "What is going on, YN?" He asked in a firm tone. "Ah-" "Oh, I just found out about a little secret YN's been hiding from us. I'm not obliged to tell you, though." She said, smirking at me. That comment sent a chill through my body. "Amande!" Big Mom yelled. "Keep stuff like that off the dinner table!" She yelled, stuffing her face. Amande sighed, but nodded. "Yes, mama." She said, turning away from me in a huff. Perospero sighed. "Can't be all that big of a deal, Amande..." Perospero muttered, looking down towards the floor. 'If you tell him anything Amande, it'll be your head I bring back and not Peros-' I thought, cutting off myself early. 'No, we're not taking back anyone's corpse.' I thought, shaking my head.

A loud knock was heard on the door, and a chess piece guard ran through the door, holding a baby transponder snail in his hand. He turned over to me and held out his hand. "Ah... Miss YN, we think this belongs to you." He said, handing me the snail. I looked at it disapprovingly. "I... I don't recognize this thing!" I said, throwing up my hands. "The man on the other end asked for a YN." He said, shrinking back at my odd manner. I clicked my tongue. 'Dangit, boss.' I thought, grating my teeth. "Must be a different YN, I've never seen this snail before." I said, waving him away. He shook his head. "Right. Do I uh... dispose of it or..?" He asked. "Set it free. I have no use for a snail that isn't mine." I lied, trying to be convincing. He then nodded and ran out the door. "YN, what was that about?" Perospero inquired. I shrugged. "Some transponder snail I've never seen before." I said, turning back to the food. He looked at me suspiciously. "Alright then..." He said, taking another chunk of bread.

Dinner was finished, and Big Mom dismissed us so Perospero and I went up to the front door so we could wander the town as we planned previously. "Ok, YN, are you ready to go?" Perospero asked me, putting on another coat over the yellow one he always wore. I nodded. "Yeah, I wonder what Whole Cake looks like at night." I hummed cheerfully. He nodded, then gave me a smile. "Then let's head out." He said, signaling to the guards to open the gate. They ran back and forth, then the gate trudged open and they saluted Perospero. "Everything is ready, Perospero-sama! Have a good date!" One of them said. Perospero chuckled. "Ah, thank you, but I know I will." He said, looking lovingly at me. I smiled back at him and chuckled a little. The guards then chuckled a little at this comment. "Still, enjoy your date, Perospero-sama!" They all said in unison. He nodded. "I will, I will." He said, putting his arm around mine. "Shall we go, YN?" He asked. I stuffed my head into his arm. "Yeah, let's go." I sighed, glad to be holding onto him.

We walked out into the streets of Whole Cake Island, the sugar-glass streetlamps lighting up the roads for us to walk on. The two of us chatted and laughed as we walked down the streets, a few passersby staring at us, but neither of us minded. We began to speak of the time before I got to Whole Cake and what Perospero was doing during that time period. "I was similar to Mama's personal servant, if I'm being honest." He claimed, holding one of his hands out. "Being the oldest, well, I was running things with Mama behind the scenes. Trying to keep everything in line, you know?" He asked, turning his head. I nodded. "Sounds pretty rough, actually. Don't most of your siblings act as though that... ah what's his name..." I asked, rubbing my temples. "Katakuri, I believe is the name you're looking for. I'm surprised you didn't try to go after him the moment you saw him. He's popular with everyone around here!" Perospero said, chuckling. I shook my head. "He's just a little... unsettling to me." I answered. Perospero just chuckled even harder. "YN! How funny!" He said, pulling me in a little tighter. "No need to lie, darling. We all know he's a hit around here." Perospero sighed, his voice low. I shook my head. "I genuinely don't like him. He's just cold and creepy- and you're only saying all that because you aren't the favorite around here." I said, shrugging my shoulders. Perospero sighed, but then gave me a smile. "I've never had a woman like you, YN. Well, I've never had a woman until you-" "No one's dated you before, Peros?" I asked, cutting him off. He nodded. "Well, we're the Charlotte family. You tend to forget that a lot, I see." He commented, patting the top of my head. I nodded. "Right right, I remember." I said, shrugging.

We walked further down the street, until ubruptly, a street light went out with a clatter. Perospero whipped around and he pulled me into his chest. At this point, it was completely dark out other than the glow of the street lamps. "Who's there?!" Perospero yelled, keeping his grip on me tight. We heard a chuckle echo around us. "Well YN... I see you got rather distracted from what you were aiming to do." A low voice called out, a voice I recognized immediately. Perospero was having none of this, though. "Who are you and how do you know YN?" He yelled out, rather livid. The chuckled rang out again. "I see... Haven't informed them of your past, aye? Well, this ought to be entertaining." A red haired man stepped out of the shadows, bird wings on his back. "Hello, YN." He said, waving to me, his green eyes reflecting the light of the unbroken streetlamp behind him. "Leyroye Roc. What in the world are you doing here?" I asked, stepping out of Perospero's grip. He chuckled once again. "Oh, YN. You know exactly why I'm here." He said, reaching for a sword that was tightly fastened to his waist.
