His Nightmares

A week passed, and although I usually did the same things every day, I made time to spend with Perospero no matter what. We also talked non-stop during dinner unless either of us were specifically mentioned by Big Mom. He and I were rather close. We'd always be seen together. He even started helping clean with me when I helped out the maids. We'd go and get breakfast out somewhere every morning (I certainly repaid him for the soup) and when I actually attended lunch, we'd talk during that meal, too. It began to be rumored that we were actually a couple. Even though we certainly acted like one, we weren't one, we were just two rather close friends who really weren't used to being treated this politely by anyone.

It had been a long day and I was up late one night; it had been a simply stressful day. Although you'd think that would make me more tired, I was disgustingly awake. I turned around and looked at the clock. 'One-o-clock... in the morning.' I thought, staring at the clock in disbelief. 'Ok I'm getting myself a snack and prank calling people on the snail for the rest of the night. I'm not even trying here.' I thought to myself as I got up out of bed. I threw the sheets back over and I quietly opened the door and closed it behind me. I began to quietly creep down the hall into the kitchen so as not to wake anyone up, but I heard muttering coming from one of the rooms. I turned and looked at the door, worried I had woken someone up. I then realized that this was Perospero's room. 'I probably wouldn't get in any trouble if I woke him up, and if he's awake, then I'll have someone to talk to.' I thought, smiling mischievously to myself. I gently turned the doorknob and peeked inside, and Perospero was certainly awake, but he wasn't trying to stare through the door like I expected him to be doing. He was on the balcony attached to his room, staring off the side of the chateau. I cleared my throat, and he whipped around. "Am I interrupting something?" I asked, rubbing the back of my neck. "Ah... YN. No, you're not interrupting anything." He said, walking back into the inside area of his room. "Am I the one who woke you up? Because if so, I apologize." I said, shaking my head. He lightly chuckled. "No, I didn't even know you were there, YN." He said, a light smile on his face. "Ah good... Why are you awake, then?" I inquired, looking at him suspiciously. He shook his head. "Ah... Nothing important." He said, sighing. "No, you've got to have a reason. No one stays up late for no reason, and you certainly don't seem like the type to do it for fun." I said, shaking my head at him. He sighed again. "If you really want to know..." He said, sitting down on the side of his bed. "I get nightmares pretty often, actually..." He stammered, still trying to maintain a smile. I was rather surprised. "And usually, I'll just fall asleep after I wake up because of them, but sometimes, like tonight, I couldn't manage it." He continued, his voice tired and drawn out. "So that's why you always look so tired." I said in a somewhat worried manner. He nodded, then placed his head in his hands. I then sat down next to him, and I began to trace shapes on his back. "No need to feel bad. If you think you woke me up or something, I was just up to get a snack." I said, trying to reassure him. He shook his head, then looked over at me. "No, YN. I wouldn't worry about that kind of thing." He said, stuffing his head back in his hands. "What is it that you dream about that's so horrible? If... Well, you don't mind me asking." I asked, still trying to get information out of him. "Ah... Random stuff..." He muttered. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, don't force yourself to do anything." I said, smiling gently at him. He turned to me, and I could tell that he was rather shaken up. He took his head out of his hands and he leaned over to me, putting his head on top of my head.

"I don't know how to describe it, YN. Most of the time I just forget what I dream about. I always wake up completely confused and-" "I understand. You needn't say any more." I said, pulling him into a hug. He leaned into my gesture, returning the hug with twice as much force as I was squeezing him with. He held onto me tight in a manner that felt like he was trying to protect me from something. "YN... I'm sorry, darling." He said, his grip loosening slightly on me. "Don't apologize." I muttered, not letting go of him. He gently shoved his face into shoulder. I could feel my face begin to flush. "Hey, Peros..." I stuttered, trying to offer him comfort. "Hmm? Yes?" He asked, taking his face off of my shoulder. "If I lay down with you... Would that help you sleep any better?" I asked, an awkward smile on my face. He shrugged. "I don't know, darling." He said, shaking his head. "It's worth a try, if anything, though." He said, beginning to smile genuinely. I went and pulled over the sheets on one side of his bed and laid down and pulled them over me. Perospero did the same. 'What are you doing?! What is wrong with you?!' I thought to myself, but I decided to ignore my conscience that time. Perospero put his arm around my waist and pulled me towards him. A few moments passed and Perospero actually seemed to be sleeping now. I was closer than I had ever been to his face before, and I began to study his features. I knew he always looked tired, like although he was sleeping it wasn't the good sort of sleep. The odd part about him was that the oddly large tongue you thought would just be a permanent part of his face, wasn't. Apparently, it only looked like that when he activated his devil-fruit. After I noticed that my "studying" had gotten to the point I was simply staring at him, I lifted myself up a little and kissed his forehead. "Sleep well, Peros." I said, actually getting tired myself. "I love you..." I muttered as I fell asleep in his arms.
