Gwaine learned early on in his friendship with merlin, that you don't let merlin see blood of a friend on an enemies weapon cause what follows is a bloodbath of the enemies. And it only got progressively worse after him and merlin got into a relationship, he's seen many times when they've gone on rides and had to fight off bandits. It's also not good when Merlin's magic lashes out when Gwaine's hurt, although he feels a warm feeling in his chest knowing his boyfriends magic reacts so strongly when he's hurt. Which is why normally only Gwaine or Lancelot can bring him out of the trance like state he goes into, but not this time.

They were on a hunting trip, because Arthur said 'I need peace from the castle and what better way to spend it then going on a hunting trip' Gwaine, Lancelot and Merlin were riding next to each other talking about last night how they stopped three assassination attempts on Arthur. They were completely wiped out as by the time they had finished the sun was rising so they only got about two hours sleep. Merlin was happy he could just be himself with his best friend and lover, he was so grateful for the both of them not even words could describe how much he loved and appreciated them because there wasn't enough words in the world.
They decided to stop and set up camp when the sun was starting to go down. Getting off his horse, Merlin tied him up to a nearby tree before getting everything he'd need to make dinner for the knights and king. "Merlin go fill up the water skins, tend to the horses, set up the sleeping mats and get started on dinner" Arthur ordered as he sat down on a nearby log, Merlin nodded, grabbed the waterskins and walked to a nearby river. Leaning down over the water on one knee he filled up the waterskins praying he doesn't fall in, breathing a sigh of relief he fastened the lid back on and headed back to camp.
Before he reached everyone his eyes flashed gold as he turned Gwaine's water into ale as his lover requested on the ride here. Smiling to himself, Merlin stepped out from behind the tree and passed everyone their water, no one noticing the sly wink merlin sent his boyfriends way other than said lover and Lancelot. He mentally checked off filling the waterskins up and went on to his next task, tending to the horses. Merlin had no issues with this job as he loves animals and the horses seem to love him back, he walked over to them and went through the satchels on the side of his horse and grabbed their food and fed them all while stroking their manes.
Satisfied that the horses were fed and watered he decided to get started on dinner before he sets out the sleeping mats. "Oh merlin don't forget to grab more fire wood will you" the prince said, Merlin groaned quietly before replying in the most sarcastic way possible "I would never sire" he received only a halfhearted glare in return but still he couldn't help but grin. "Waine could you grab the pot for me while I get the rest" he asked his lover over his shoulder as he tried to juggle the pot, spoon, food and bowls. Of course Gwaine was more than happy to help his love, so he stood up with a smile "of course merls".
He walks over and takes the pot from merlin purposefully letting their hands linger on one another and winks before taking it over to the fire, Merlin tried containing his smile but they proved to be fruitless and his smile could be seen by everyone who were glad to see their friend so happy. He made his way back over to the fire and got started on making the stew, his famous deer stew and the knights of the round table couldn't wait. Merlin knew that his lover wouldn't be able to wait for the stew to be done so he reached into his satchel and pulls out and apple handing it to him "here waine It'll keep you happy till I'm finished" he smiles and gets a blinding smile back from the brown haired male "your the best merls".
The knights were all talking among themselves but two were not they preferred to talk quietly to the manservant who was making their food. "Please merls we won't ask again we promise" they both begged trying to get a taste of the stew, Merlin groaned halfheartedly he could never be mad or annoyed with them two. The two knights grinned seeing they had won and opened their mouths as the warlock lifted the spoon giving them a taste. "Mmmm" both knights moaned happily as the delicious stew covered their taste buds, Merlin chuckled and went back to stirring the stew when he felt four more presence surround him causing him to look up confused.
