I can't really believe it. A little person inside of me? No way. I hopped off the table and walked over to the mirror above the sink. Pulling up my shirt I inspected my stomach. There was a noticeable mound. like I'd eaten too much, except bigger. When did that happen? I ran my hand over my belly.
I sat back down on the table, and began to feel a little queasy. Olivia walked in and held the door for the doctor, as she wheeled in a machine thing.
I stared at the machine, with wide eyes. What is that?
"You can relax sweety, it won't hurt." Dr. Walker said. "This machine performs a test called a sonogram, or ultrasound. It lets us see an image of the baby. By the size I'll be able to tell you about how far along you are, and about when it's due."
"Alright, what do I do?" I asked the doctor.
"Here lie back," she said pulling out an extension on the bed and pulling the pillow down further. "Now, I need you to pull down your pants a little, to a few inches below your belly button. Now pull your shirt up to just under your breasts." I did as she asked. "This might be a little cold." She said squirting some gel onto my stomach. Next she turned of the light. She took a wand she called it, and starting pushing it around my stomach.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Looking for the baby." She said staring at the screen. A moment after she said that, a steady thudding noise echoed through the room.
"What is that?" I asked trying to see the monitor.
"That, my dear, is the sound of your little one's heart beating." Dr. Walker said moving the wand slightly. "I can him or her, but I'm trying to get a better v-" she was cut off by a new sound. "Oh my gosh!" Olivia said in unison with Dr. Walker. They looked at each other and smiled.
"What!? What does that mean?" I asked frantically.
"Well babe." Olivia said turning the screen so I could I could see it. "That means we've got twins!"
"As in two? Two babies? What!!!?" I said shrieking. "Oh my gosh. Oh. my. gosh. How am I going to raise two babies. Take care of them? I can't do this."
"We'll do it together Bristol. We'll get through it." Olivia said. Apparently I'd spoken all that out loud. "Oh my gosh."

The doctor turned of the heartbeats, so we could talk. She ran of a picture of the babies off for Bristol.
"The babies both look healthy, you are about 6 weeks along. And I don't see, any sort of separation in the amniotic sacs, so they appear to be identical." She helped Bristol sit up, and gave her a towel to wipe the gel off with. "You're already pretty big for 6 weeks, and you probably judging on how your body is now, will be on the bigger side in terms of your belly. Which brings me to another point. Bristol, because you are so young, and have a small frame, not to mention that it's twins, this pregnancy will be classified as high risk. Which means no school. No contact sports. In fact, I'm going to put you on partial bed rest. You can go places, but for the most part I want you to relax. Avoid stress. The babies pick up on your emotions, and if your stressed so are they, if your blood pressure is up theirs is too." She thought a minute. "I don't want to, but if at any point I think the you, or the babies are at risk I will hospitalize you. I'm going to give you some prenatal vitamins, and a few pamphlets about adoption. I know Ms. Benson said you weren't considering abortion. So her are some agencies, if you do decide that an adoption is the best idea. Your next appointment is going to be in two weeks. At your eight week mark. There's a pamphlet in there about what symptoms should start manifesting at certain points in your pregnancy. Morning sickness usually starts anywhere from 5- 7 1/2 weeks for most women. Along with fatigue, an increase in appetite, and cravings. You may have more symptoms, or none at all. Every pregnancy, is different. Do you have any questions?" The doctor said looking from me to Bristol.
"When we you be able to tell the genders?" I asked.
"Well, a lot of people say 16 weeks. But it's actually closer to 18 weeks. You can't be sure until at least 17 weeks. And also, right now there doesn't appear to be a membrane separating them, so right now they appear to be identical. Which means they either have to be both girls or both boys. But we'll know more at you next checkup."
Bristol sat there a moment looking at the picture. "If y'all need anything at all, let me know." The doctor said.
"Thank you, Dr. Wa-"
"Please, call me Angela." She said to me, then turned to Bristol. "Bristol, you know your body better than anyone. And you know you have natural instincts when it comes to these babies. If you feel different, or have a feeling that something is wrong don't hesitate to call me, okay?" Bristol nodded. Angela wrote out an appointment card, with her cell number on the back of it.
