    Sunlight flirted with closed blinds.

The sound of humming woke her. It was some of the most melodious humming she'd ever heard in her life. Then she felt a surge of warmth grazing her ear and the whiff of sweet-smelling cologne brushed her nostrils. Thick, corded arms tightened around her. This was the warmest, safest, and most comforted she'd felt in a long time. And to think, I nearly allowed strangers to dictate whether I could have this again. I nearly allowed so-called fans and the media to shame me into staying away from him.

"I can tell from the way you're breathing that you're awake," he said in his gruff morning voice, the morning voice that always made her toes curl.

Without responding to him, she stretched an arm out and fumbled for her phone on the nightstand. She wordlessly accessed her music app and cued up the song "In the Morning" by J. Cole and featuring none other than the love of her life.

His chuckle sounded behind her. "Oh, is that how you feel?" he asked after the first few note of the song played.

    "It's how I always feel."

Moments later, she felt his soft lips on the crest of her shoulder. His hands started to wander, moving up and down the slope of her hips. When his verse came on in the song, he whispered it into her ear while pulling her against him. Then, he was sliding into her and biting into her shoulder when she moaned. It was amazing, how many times she'd fucked him and yet whenever he pushed inside of her, the size of him still surprised her. She was never quite ready for it, and this time was no exception. Her muscles tensed and contracted around him before welcoming him in. It was as if even her pussy was hesitating before fully forgiving him.

Then, everything was slick and smooth and the very definition of ecstasy. They found their sync and moved together as one. He grabbed her face and turned it towards him so he could roughly kiss her on the mouth. His kiss was possessive and fierce, and she returned that ferocity while pushing back onto him.

His hand wrapped around her throat and he gripped it. When he came up for air, his fingers remained firm against her neck. They stared at each other for what seemed like the longest time. Words weren't spoken during this time, but much was communicated between the two of them. Time passed, and when they both were on the brink of unconsciousness, he murmured, "I missed that."

"So did I," she allowed herself to admit.

Unbeknownst to Mia, true fame awaited her when she went back into the world. She was introduced to the wide range of fame, the different types. Prior to yesterday, she'd had both indie fame and plus one fame. Indie fame was what she'd achieved on her own, marketing her music on social media. Plus one fame was the level of interest she'd secured once the world discovered that she was romantically involved with Drake. But after the interview where she outed the handsy producer, her name was in constant circulation. Fans and the media were positioning her to be some sort of activist.

It started with subtle differences. More eyes on her than usual, a constant whispered narrative of her every action while she was grocery shopping. "She's picking up a frozen pizza. Now, she's reading the list of ingredients. Oh, she must have seen something she didn't like...she's putting the frozen pizza back." Then, it was the cashier squinting at her trying to figure out where she recognized her from. The woman looked to be upwards of fifty years old. The fact that she recognized her at all was a wonder. Mia didn't know that her reach went that far. Upon exiting the grocery store, a barrage of paparazzi crowded around her, snapping photos and screaming at her. They were asking her everything from why she outed the producer to whether or not her and Drake were getting back together, to when her next project would drop. "Did you know that Cardi backed up what you said in an interview?" another one of the photogs shouted at her.
