Carlos' POV
Nothing had prepared me for how easy this so-called 'challenge' would be. The princess I was supposed to marry turned out to be doing this because of a bet. That didn't stop her from marrying me though, as she had already committed to this. I tried to explain to my parents that we should call off the wedding, but they just said it was to make the family look good and successful. This time, the princess wasn't the problem, it was the parents. There was no backing out of it for me! I desperately searched for ways to get out of it, but the only options were the most risky. I slumped down on my bed a couple weeks before the wedding and dug my face in the pillows. I felt two light patters on my back which slowly crawled up to the edge of the pillow I was on. I lifted my face and saw Carol there. "Oh, hi Carol, what are you doing?" I asked her, still tired. "No, what are YOU doing? It's only a few weeks until the wedding's here! You know it's just a bet, but she can't break up with you as soon as she gets married! You have to shoot your shot and just be done with it." she scolded. I knew it was true. I had two options: leave the whole entire thing and go along with the marriage, making Felix sad, or to try my best and actually do something other than lying around all day mucking around. I sighed and turned over, met with surprise with Felix sitting there. I felt Carol jump on and off my shoulder to stand next to him, and they both looked up at me. I looked at them too, but confused. Were they hinting at something that I just didn't know? I squinted my eyes and tried to figure out what they were doing, but Felix just shook his head and pointed at the window. "You wanna go outside?" I smiled, but Carol just facepalmed. "We can run away!" she whisper-shouted. Run away? I had never thought of that. Sure, I didn't like my parents, but did I really want to leave Amira? I mean, she was a good sister and all, but running away can't stop me from meeting up with her, right? It took a while for me to think about all of this. It was a really tough decision. If I stayed, I would have to get married to the princess, still be under strict rules from my parents and have to try to keep Felix away from being an almost jester. If I did leave however, I guess I would be less restricted but have my guard up a lot, I thought to myself. It actually took a couple of days for me to confirm my decision, but it was final - I was going to run away and be happy with my new life. I packed all of my things like phones, money notes, board games, sleeping bags, tents, clothes and other things. I had to tell my sister before I left so she knew that I would meet up with her, since I could still miss her. "Hey, Amira. I'm running away, and I just wanted to let you know that we can still meet up and stuff..." I trembled, speaking to her. It was hard, but it was my last resort. "Whatever, the guards will catch you." she rolled her eyes at me. It seemed like she didn't believe it. I waited for midnight and motioned for Felix and Carol to climb into my pocket, from which they did so. I climbed out of my window and waited for the headlights to move before jumping onto the grass in the garden. I heard something move and spun around, quickly moving to hide behind a pole. I had been too loud and one of the guards heard me. I steadied my breathing and felt wriggling in my pocket. What were those two doing? I heard footsteps getting louder until it stopped and I heard a loud thud.
Felix's POV
I was nervous, not just for me, but for Carlos. I had slept most of the day to make up for the night, but at exactly 7PM I found myself frantically preparing for midnight. I brought all of my belongings with me, including the things Carlos got me. I clambered into his pocket and landed safely, but Carol landed on top of me. We got off each other and held on to the fabric as we felt Carlos jump. We heard footsteps, footsteps that weren't Carlos'. "Hey, you're taller than me, Felix. You can climb out. Take this sedative needle I stole from the pet shop and jab it at whatever danger is out there." she explained, handing me a heavy needle. I nodded and anxiously peered over the top of Carlos' pocket. I ran down off his shoes and closer to the noise. It was a guard. I brought up the courage to climb up to the guard's shoulder(which was extremely hard considering the smoothness of the uniform), and with all my might, I stabbed the needle into his neck. He fell and I grabbed onto his hat which just fell off to the side. My heart was beating rapidly, I couldn't believe that I had done that! I looked over to see Carlos, surprised as ever. I smiled and started jumping up to get his attention to pick me up again, but he started walking away. My smile faded and I started panicking, he was leaving without me!
Carlos' POV
I breathed a sigh of relief, happy that I'd been saved. By what? I didn't know at the time, all I knew then was that luck was on my side. I turned to leave but I felt hard punching against my leg, making it ache badly. Was it a mosquito? I reached into my pocket and brought Carol out, but I couldn't find Felix. I was worried now. I looked everywhere to find him on the ground, scared that I might've stepped on him. Carol pointed at the guard. Lying next to him was a hat, and something was jumping on it - Felix. I chuckled, more relaxed now, and picked him up. In his hand was a needle. I was shocked at how he had done it when I realized, but I was more thankful than ever to try and figure out any mysteries this time. I placed the two in my pocket and continued to run. Pressing my back against a wall, I looked both ways to see if any guards were there. It was clear. I ran, putting all my effort into it as if it were some race. I clutched onto my pocket tightly making sure no one was falling out. I was then met with the scent of the city - I had escaped the castle.
