Felix's POV
I sat around for a long time, wondering what I should do while Carlos was out. He had left me on his bedside desk, which was really high considering he owned a proper tall bed, or maybe it was just me. I sighed and decided to actually try and do something. Looking around, I noticed something moving underneath his bed, so I decided to go and investigate it. I looked down and saw how far down it was, and I jumped onto one of the handles, clinging on. "Oh no.. I don't think I can cling on for much longer..." I grunted. I should've just minded my own business! I thought to myself angrily. Suddenly, I let go and screamed. This time, there was no Carlos here to catch me, to save me. Now I had actually agreed with his sister's reasons. I closed my eyes, knowing that I wouldn't make a difference in the giant world if I were to die. Something strange happened, however. I didn't feel anything: no pain, no harsh landing, no floor. I did feel a pair of small arms around me though. I jumped out of their arms and spun around, looking to see who my savior was. It was a girl, who was about my height but a little smaller, and had brown hair and brown eyes. "T-thank you so much! I can't even begin to say how grateful I am for you-" I began, but she cut me off. "Shut up! The maids are coming. DON'T blow my cover!" she whisper-shouted. The door swung open and a maid came in. "Come on, they won't do anything!" I said, smiling. I grabbed her hand but she pushed me away. "Your food is here." the maid said. I thanked her and ran over to it, but the girl got there first. She looked extremely hungry, but relieved. "I haven't had good food in years..." she said, relieved she had finally had something. I looked at her, confused. "Have you come from a bad family or what?" I asked her, worried. "Nope, I'm a borrower, or, as the giants like to call me, annoying pesky bugs." she muttered, getting annoyed at the name. "Really?! I've never met a borrower before, only other tinies.." I shouted excitedly. The girl quickly placed her finger over her mouth, telling me to be quiet, from which I understood the signal. "Why do I need to be so quiet again?" I whispered. "Because, the maids have been trying to catch me for a long time, okay? I've been stealing from this castle my whole life, but I've only gotten a couple of things considering that this place has high security." she explained. I nodded, pretending to understand when I really didn't. "So...what's your name?" I smiled, expecting an answer, but the girl just turned around and headed for a hole in the wall. "Just call me..." she thought for a while. "Collin." she smirked. Something in my head told me she wasn't being truthful. I ran over to her. "No...what's your name?" I asked again, this time with a serious expression. She stared at me with a frustrated look, and ran away into the hole. I chased after her. Why was she so secretive of her name? She turned around, glancing at me every once in a while when I was getting closer. I was just about to reach her when she turned a corner into a bright light - I was outside again. I quickly turned around until a large hand grabbed me. "I wonder if this is a doll..." the voice said. The giant hand shook me back and forth, from which I cried out for help. "Oh! It's a tiny. I guess I'll put it in the pet shop..." it muttered. I tried my best and struggled against the hand, but I knew it was no good, they were much stronger than me anyway. "Hi, I'm here to drop off this tiny I found on the street." "We'll check if he has an owner." I heard a conversation begin, and started to become happy at hearing the words 'He belongs to Carlos, the prince.", though I wasn't sure why. The hand turned me around. "I must say...if he's out on the streets like this...does it mean Prince Carlos doesn't want him?" the giant stranger asked. The shopkeeper shrugged and asked the man to put me inside the glass cage. There I saw many other tines scurrying around like wild cats. I wondered if I was ever gonna turn out like them, but I shook my head, deciding it would be better to not think about negative things. Every day I would get fed the same food and have a water bowl next to me. I shared a bed with this tiny called Micheal. We had become friends over the past few weeks, and kept each other sane. The only person who I wondered who wasn't sane was Carlos. Did he ever worry about me? Soon enough, I saw the borrower that I'd met in the same glass cage I was in. "It's you." she said sternly. She looked as if she expected me to turn up here.
Carlos' POV
I sighed after the exhausting day and went back to my room to see Felix. Nothing could ever describe how worried I was when I couldn't find him. I tried searching the ground, my sister's room, under my bed...everything! After checking nearly everything, I asked my maids what happened, and came to a conclusion that he had died. I wanted to have a funeral for him, but I didn't know where his body was, and I would be too sorrowful to even look at his lifeless self. I didn't want to believe he was dead, but it was the only explanation I could think of. My sister seemed pretty sad too, I think she actually cared for Felix a bit. I mourned his death for several days, and kept his things around to remind myself of him. My parents noticed how gloomy I was feeling those weeks, and suggested that we go and find a new 'pet' at the shops. I knew no one could ever replace Felix, but looking around the shops couldn't hurt if it meant I was looking after someone else. I opened the door as it made a ringing noise and looked around for a suitable tiny. All of them made me tear up from the memories. I was just about to leave when a certain tiny caught my eye - it was Felix. I couldn't believe it. It was actually him! I ran over to the glass in joy, accidentally scaring a couple other tinies off, but I was too excited to meet Felix again, I thought he died! I was quite mad at him too, although he didn't even do anything wrong. I couldn't stay mad for long though, I was too happy to! He seemed extremely happy to see me too. I held my hand out for him to climb on, but he seemed to have an extra guest with him.
Felix's POV
As soon as I saw Carlos my eyes lit up with joy. His did too. He held out his hand for me to climb on, but I turned around to look at my borrower friend. I began thinking of unimaginable possibilities that could happen to her, most giants despised borrowers in every way. I wanted to make sure she was safe, after all, she did save me from my death once. I decided I was going to save her too, and grabbed her by the arm, bringing her to Carlos' hand.
Carlos' POV
It was a girl. I wasn't sure if he had made a girlfriend there while I wasn't there for him, but something about the girl made me sad. "Felix...who's this?" I asked him quietly. "It's my new friend! She hasn't told me her name yet though..." he explained. I smiled, and welcomed her to my home, but she seemed really scared of me. I gained her trust eventually by buying more things for her and Felix to share even though she was quite stubborn with sharing. One day, I overheard her conversations with Felix...
Felix "So...can you tell me your name now?"
Borrower "No."
Felix "Pretty pleeeaasseee?"
Borrower "No."
Felix "Okay then, if you don't say your name, I'll call you Barbara for short!"
Borrower "For...short?"
Felix "That's okay, right Barbara? I mean you didn't want to say your-"
Borrower "SHUT UP! Don't call me Barbara...I'll tell you my name."
Felix "Ooh, yay!"
Borrower "It's Carol."
I don't know what it was about that name, but it made my life flash behind my eyes, in a way. It just reminded me a lot of someone, but I couldn't place my finger on it.
Felix's POV
I giggled proudly - I had won, and finally figured out her name! "Woah, I actually like the name Carol, it's cool." I chirped happily. "And I don't care what you think." Carol said. I took great offense to that and crossed my arms, mad about what she said.
