I walked to school on Monday with a skip in my steps. I felt so at peace. After Jacob left on Thursday, I took the time to think about myself. Who I was and where I was going. I couldn't let Stephanie bring me down. I wouldn't give her that satisfaction.

Once I walked up the stairs, I heard a scream all the way from science class at the end of the hall.
"Oh my sweet child it's you" she exclaimed rushing to meet me. That person was no other than Jasmine. My sweet best friend.
"I tried calling and texting you all through the weekend. What happened? Are you okay?" She asked crushing me with a bear hug.

"I'm fine" I replied and this time I was for real.

"Why didn't you reply my texts or pick up my calls?" She asked hitting my arm. Hard. Her hand is so strong. I entered her class while rubbing the 'Jasmine-infused' pain on my arm and sat on her desk while she sat on the chair beside hers.

"I had a lot of thinking to do". I did.

"Okay, I think that's enough thinking for the whole year. Or at least the rest of it" she said laughing and I joined in.

People kept filing into the class and I made no move to leave. I was catching up with my best friend and the gist was sweet.

"Kemi thank God you're back to your usual self. I actually thought you had a terminal illness with the way you were behaving" someone said and by someone I mean our Honourable Jamiu. I just laughed and shook my head.

It was soon time for assembly and after that I went for class. We were having Mr James again. The universe really wants to spoil my mood.

"Person no dey tire for financial accounts again. I'm tired o. If anything 'financial' enters my head today it will burst" Jamiu said trailing behind me.
"Since the day I entered this school, that man has refused to be absent for even a day. Ahah wetin sef? Is it only financial accounting we're writing in WAEC? " he grumbled. He grabbed his bag and left the class.

"For Jamiu to behave like this, I'm not sure Mr James should come to class. They might chase him away" Isaac said once I had sat down. Once he said that, Mr James walked in and as expected, they almost literally chased him out.

"Sir, most of us are on the debate team and we're preparing hard to bring the gold medal. Were compiling our findings on the topic. Could you just give us classwork?" Bisola, our class prefect said. God should help me bless that girl. She should have added small in front of the classwork before we start seeing answer 1-20. I'll just cry.

"Are you telling me to leave?"

"No sir. I want you to test our abilities" she replied. "We promise not to make noise" she added for extra effect.

"You won't make noise because I'm going to sit right here. By the way, where's the rest of the class?" He asked. It was at that point I looked around to realize almost half the class was gone. Including Chichi.

"Sir, maybe they're stuck in traffic. It's a Monday afterall" I didn't realize it was me who said that until I saw everyone's eyes on me. Okay, this is awkward.
Fayokemi, learn to shut up.
The ground should just swallow me.

"Okay then. Open to page 58 of your textbook and answer 1-10" he said and sat down in front of the class. I opened my textbook as an obedient child and I wished I followed the rest to leave the class. It was 1-10 alright. With babies. Babies as in, 1a, 1b and 1c.
Shey this one is punishment?
Abi how many days is he giving us?

"Submit by the end of the period". Abba Father.

Thirty minutes later, and my wrist was starting to beg for mercy. I had to shake it every few seconds.
"Mr James, can I see you for a second?" That was Miss Aliu. He nodded and left the class. Praise the Lord somebody.
