"I am more ready than you could imagine."

Laurie straightened her new clothes and grabbed her bag before making her way towards the metal gate. Her eyes wandered on the letters into it, you could read 'Echen House'. She was finally getting out of the mental institution or as some would call asylum. After two years of imprisonment and useless therapy she finally got her freedom back and if you would have asked her if that experience changed her. She would respond to you with a monotone voice that it certainly did not, of course she didn't say that to her parents when they came to free her. They truly believed that they made the right decision putting their only daughter in a mental hospital and it would most likely tear them apart if they learnt all of the things that their sweet little girl endured behind those grey walls. So she decided to keep her mouth shut, as it was the best option, and act like she was now finally "normal" to please her parents. And even though they smiled with pride and joy after seeing her "cured", they still knew deep down that she was the same broken version that they received when she was born. They would just have to navigate past that and lie to themselves, act like everything was okay with their daughter. They couldn't do anything else, they already tried everything but to no avail, their daughter seemed to be destined to a lifetime of misery and loneliness. And even if she knew they were thinking that, it didn't bother her, she knew everyone was thinking that she was broken, that something was missing. Everyone but her. Morrel. The psychologist of the asylum, her interactions with Laurie were always kind of hectic, considering that she was the only person who seemed to spike an interest in the blond girl. Laurie knew that Morrel knew more than she was letting on and Morrel knew that Laurie had a greater role to play, they both had a relationship of respect. And Morrel knew that the day Laurie would get out of Echen House, she would change the course of events bigger than she could fathom.
The blond teenager nodded her head as she passed Morrel but the older woman stopped her. Laurie looked at the hand on her shoulder before looking at Morrel in the eyes. The psychologist knew that the girl wasn't comfortable with physical contact but decided to keep her hand on her shoulder anyway.
"Find Scott McCall. They need you Laurie."
She nodded her head almost robotically before responding with a soft and calm voice, "I know."
The psychologist gave her a small smile that the girl did not reciprocate before letting her go. Laurie walked away from the buildings that she considered a prison for years and got in a black car. Her father turned back toward her and smiled warmly, "Alright honey. Are you ready to go home?"
She looked at him and nodded, "I am more ready than you could imagine." He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion but just shrugged it off and turned back on his seat to talk to his wife who was on the passenger seat. Laurie looked back to the doors as they slowly closed, and she could see Morrel staring at her from behind the bars.
She already knew what she had to do, but she didn't know at that moment how much it would impact her.
