The beast standing over Ember was made of bright blue light that shimmered and sparkled, showing the creature's large fangs and etched the detail of scales on its long snout. It was a dragon-like beast with large bat wings and twisting horns that looked as if they were made of bright blue smoke. It snarled and growled, a low echoey sound that erupted from deep in its throat. Ember blinked in surprise as the beast disappeared within a second leaving a few tendrils of blue smoke behind it. Ember was breathing heavily and her heart thumped inside her ribcage, she heard a laugh from inside the tunnel, Blake, Bethany, Garold, and Nicholas stepped out from the tracks. Bethany was holding a small tendril of blue smoke in her gloved hand.
"I should have known" Ember grumbled as she sat up from the rough concrete, she lowered her hood and removed her mask.
Bethany laughed and smirked at Ember as they stepped closer to her she dismissed the smoke with a wave of her hand "like my new trick?"
Ember rolled her eyes "what trick? You've been doing the blue smoke stuff for a while now" she said harshly.
Bethany narrowed her eyes "you know what I mean Amber"
"Do I?"
She scoffed.
Nicholas sent an icy glare towards Bethany "alright that's enough, now we discuss the real reason why we have to meet here" he said.
Bethany stepped away from Ember and looked at Nicholas.
"So tomorrow is our last day to get five more samples, so I figured that tonight we go find some of our targets and you know, do our thing so that way we can just go to the Council tomorrow and get this over with and get paid" he said with a clap of his hands.
"Wow, couldn't have said it better myself." Garold said as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Well that was short" Ember said "you guys could have just said it over comm message"
"Eh I guess" Nicholas shrugged.
"So you just want us to go right now?" asked Blake uncertainty in his voice, Ember stared at him with annoyance.
"You want to get paid right?"
"Well yeah"
"Then go do your job" said Ember as she pulled her hood over her mess of dark curls. They split up into different directions and walked into separate tunnels, as she ran through the tunnel she pulled the metal mask over her face.
She saw a white light ahead where the moonlight shone through a hole at the top of the tunnel, Ember grasped her grapple gun and shot it up at the hole, it pulled her up swiftly through the hole and she was met with the crisp night air.
She placed her gun back into her belt and ran past the tracks of the maglev, already tracking who she was going to get tonight.
