Koi had never been this angry since her father had stolen her money to go get some alcohol and had left four year old Hecate by herself at the house.

Koi had been livid that day.

But little Hecate claimed that she was ok and was just playing with her toys contently in her room.

But this.

This was different.

Ember had broken a safety rule, she had murdered someone.

Koi hovered over the girl who had been shot, the girl had stopped trembling and when Koi checked for a pulse, it wasn't there.

Koi cursed and stood from the body, she rubbed her temples in anger.

Nicholas walked up to her "I am so sorry-"

"No, it wasn't your fault," Koi said as she looked at him seriously, her gaze clashing with his gray eyes for a few seconds before she looked away.

She walked up to Ember, her gut boiling with anger.

How could she have been so stupid?

"We gotta call someone," Koi said as she glared at Ember.

Koi sighed as she dialed Manny's number.

Koi stood in front of Manny's desk, Nicholas and Ember were both next to her.

Manny was looking at them with an expression Koi had never seen before, disappointment.

"I don't even know where to start here" said Manny with a shake of his head.

"Let me just say I am so-" started Nicholas.

"You shouldn't be the one to apologize," snapped Koi.

She turned to face Ember, still waiting for at least an apology from her but when she looked at her, she had no hint of remorse in her eyes. In fact she looked proud of herself.

Koi scowled.

"Ember, I want you to understand that what you did was completely against our safety rules and was very dangerous" Manny said "In fact you could have gotten your teammates in a lot of trouble with the council"

"Yeah, if people get arrested for asking for help here, imagine what they would do to us if they found out that you killed someone." said Koi with an edge to her tone.

Ember shot her a dirty look.

"We would technically be the equivalent to the Drainers" said Nicholas.

Ember shot him a look.

Koi crossed her arms, "Listen technically we are supposed to alert the Council about this, but it is your first day and you didn't know so we will let it slide with a serious warning. But if it happens again" Manny shook his head "I'm afraid it will be to prison with you or maybe even execution"

Ember nodded in understanding "I understand sir"

Manny looked at Koi with disappointment etched into his expression "Koia, you need to make sure incidents like this never happen again, understand?"

Koi's heart palpitated, he hadn't been this disappointed in her ever. This was a change.

She nodded "of course"

Manny nodded "okay, well that's it, you may leave" he said as he closed a file on his desk.

Nicholas and Ember filed out of the room but Koi stayed.

"May I speak to you Manny?"

Manny blinked "sure"

Koi sucked in a breath "I know this may not be important but during the Council's announcement, while they were talking about the Drainers they never mentioned our company or any Drainer agencies. And I was just curious."

Manny looked at her as if he were trying to figure out what she was saying, "Maybe they just forgot, but like you said it's nothing to worry about. Just a common mistake." he said as he shuffled through some of his files.

"But-"

"Listen its after hours and we are all supposed to be at home right now, so just forget about it for now, we can worry about it later"

Koi slumped in defeat, she slowly turned around and walked out of his office.

She grabbed her bag from off the ground and walked out of the tent... and nearly ran into Nicholas.

"Oh sorry" she stuttered as she walked around him but stopped.

She could talk to him about this.

She turned around and nearly ran into him again "you good?" he asked.

Koi kept a determined look on her face.

"I have a lot on my mind right now and I just need to discuss it with someone." she said.

Nicholas blinked as he looked up into the distance, Koi looked behind her to see Ember looking in their direction. Once she saw them she quickly looked away and kept walking through the crowd.

"Uh, ok can't you just talk to Manny about this" he asked.

Koi sighed "already tried but he ended that conversation pretty fast."

"Ok fine, spill it"

Koi told him what she had on her mind.

"Maybe it's just a common-"

"Please don't say it's just a common mistake, I know it's not"

Nicholas looked at her, she looked into his gray eyes. An eye color she had never seen before and was so beautiful to look at, how it was gray with flecks of green and rimmed with dark green.

She urged herself to stay calm.

"Well, what if I told you if they did it on purpose?" he said with a sly grin.

Koi took that in for a second.

What if they did it on purpose? I always knew there was something about them that was just off. Why am I stressing over this so much?

Koi nibbled her lip in concentration.

What if-

Her train of thought was interrupted when Nicholas cleared his throat "well anyway, there's something to think about"

Koi looked back at his eyes "I can't be the only one that thinks that this whole, Council- Lunar unification day is a little weird right? I mean like what if they have something against us? What if-"

She looked up with wide eyes "what if they are working with the Drainers?"

Nicholas shrugged "I mean anything is possible"

Koi looked at the ground in realization.

Once Nicholas saw her expression he said "I mean I wouldn't get so worked up about it-"

"We should come back tomorrow and keep trying to figure this out, but come early" she said as she walked into the moving crowd.

She felt like she was finally uncovering something for the first time in her life, and it was something big.
