I head throbbed as I slowly regained consciousness. I could feel all my blood rushing to my head.
Was I upside down?
"Bellamy! Wake up!" Adrian was outside the car on his knees. His hands were covered in blood due to the glass everywhere. He must've crawled out through his window.
I stared at him before undoing my seatbelt. I put my hands up against the roof of the car so I wouldn't hit my head.
Damn I'm so grateful for seatbelts.
Adrian grabbed my arm as he helped pull me out of the drivers window.
"Shit" I cursed as I felt anger build up. I should've been on guard, that was too close. How did I not notice we were being followed.
And what was up with Adrian earlier.
Adrian touched my face "your head is bleeding" he mumbled "are you okay?"
"Fuck where's that other car, the driver might be alive!" I stood up, nearly stumble. My legs, there was no cut or wounds but they nearly gave out. It must've been because of the impact of the crash.
"Careful!" Adrian held onto my arm.
I moved towards the car looking under as I grabbed my gun. "Adrian we need to go in case another person comes after us" I stood again grabbing his hand.
"Bellamy wait" Adrian tried to speak but I ignored him and began walking. "Bell everything's fine! I called-."
In the distance two men on motorbikes came speeding down the road, they carried pistols and a AR-15. There were three black vehicles following behind.
Enemies?! Damnit neither of us were in position to run.
"In the woods move it!" I ordered Adrian ahead. I stayed behind him to cover him from any harm.
"It's okay! Its our people" Adrian plopped down onto the ground out of exhaustion.
How? How did they get here so fast? How long was I out for? I couldn't help but to feel uneasy, it was way too soon after the crash.
Wait— they came the direction we came. If they were coming from the house it should've been the direction Adrian and I were heading.
The bikers and vehicles came to a stop just yards away from us. The first car door opened, Klaus stepped out.
"Adrian! Are you okay?" He hurried over to examine Adrian. The bikers began to ride off, I presume they were going to search for the attacker.
"That was really scary" Adrian mumbled. "Your first time always is" Klaus spoke. "There's going to be more like this?! This- fuck" Adrian frowned.
Klaus gave small smile to Adrian.
"Klaus. How did you guys get here so fast" I narrowed my eyes.
Klaus looked at me "There's a tracker on your car and phones. We are allowed to view how fast you're are moving. I noticed something off when your car was reaching 119" his look was cold. "We were already following your tracks when Adrian called and confirmed that you guys had flipped"
I kept my eyes on Klaus as he stepped closer to me. "You should've called in once you notice someone was following you. You allowed Adrian to be hurt" he scolded.
"Anything could've happened if we had called it in. This is something out of his control" Adrian was quick to speak up.
Did Klaus have something against me? It was clear that he didn't like me from the start.
Klaus turned to Adrian "Someone patch him up" he ordered. "Sir!" A man led Adrian to the cars.
My mind and heart continued to race. I still had adrenaline racing through my body, that I could barely feel any pain.
Klaus glared in my direction "They will take care of you in the last car"
"Sir I request to be in Adrian's car. I still want to stay-." I was cut off before I could finish. "Adrian will be fine. These are our men, highly trained- and if any other inconveniences were to occur I doubt you are in any shape to take action" Klaus grinned before trailing off to the car Adrian was in.
"Let's go. Thomas, you and your crew will deal with the scene up. We don't want to gain any attention from cops. Report back once you've located the other vehicle and it's driver"
I frowned as a nagging feeling continued to bother me. Something wasn't right, it didn't make sense. I couldn't put my finger on what bothered me so much.
—
"Why can't I see him! Shouldn't I continue with my duties?!" I argued with Klaus "I really think something is building up behind the scenes— I can stay by his side and make sure he's safe"
"Like you did earlier? You let your guard down and almost got him killed" Klaus scoffed.
"Sir-." My attention shifted to Martin, who was seated in his chair. He had no change in his expression, it remained cold and fierce.
"Where were you when Adrian passed out too. What did he pass out from? Huh? Did someone drug him, was he feeling Ill?" Klaus snapped.
I glared at Klaus, he was trying to rile me up and make me seem unreliable.
I ignored him as I directed my next words to Martin, "sir I don't think him being alone is safe right now.. he has been on edge since he learned Cain was back."
After learning Adrian's past with Cain, I knew that he's been struggling recently. Adrian didn't seem the type to show it but I always felt that there was a protective wall around him, even when he was vulnerable.
Why isn't Marlin considering Adrian's feelings, just like before he controlled Adrian by keeping him isolated. Isolation is never the key, it does more harm than good."Adrian is safe. He's home with tons of men guarding the place. It's the safest place there is" Klaus objected.
"I know I don't have proof but there are traitors, if you give me time I can smoke out the rats" I narrowed my eyes.
"Bellamy. These are my closest men, my friends. Everyone here is like family. Before you accuse anyone, have proof to back it up" Martin finally spoke "rest now. You've experienced severe head trauma during the chase. Adrian is in his room resting, he's fine. My enemies won't reach him here" He opened his desk drawer and pulled out multiple envelopes. He tossed them forward.
"Those are for you. You did your job, Adrian is safe" he stood. "I will be away for the next three days for business. I suggest you rest those days, let Klaus take over for the meantime." He grinned.
"But—."
"Your dismissed." He shot a warning look. It was clear he didn't want to hear anymore.
Cain and traitors were an issue but to me the biggest issue was Adrian's mental state. He didn't pass out for nothing, he acting strange after I saw him. He seemed insecure and scared.
I sighed as I grabbed the envelopes. I glanced to Martin before Klaus. Klaus held his head high as if he gained a win. I scoffed as I exited.
What was Klaus' deal? We both want the same thing. Well partly. I took on this job for the money, money is my only motivation. I originally planned on using Adrian, but I can't help but to take my job more serious.
Money has become a side thought.
