Author's pov.

After what happened between them, they somehow avoided talking to each other. Yeji felt guilty and sad about what she had done, while Chaeryeong was confused about how she felt after the kiss. Since that moment, she kept touching her lips, her heart fluttering—did she actually like it?

When the day was ending, it happened that both girls were assigned to clean and ended up being the last ones in their classroom. They glanced at each other, then quickly looked away and began cleaning—Chaeryeong wiping the blackboard, Yeji sweeping the floor. The room was so quiet, the only sounds were their breathing and the soft wind coming through the window.

The silence broke when Yeji accidentally hit her foot on a chair and let out a squeak of pain. Chaeryeong immediately rushed over, worry in her eyes. "Does it hurt here? Let's go to the infirmary and get you treated. Hop on my back!" she said, her voice full of concern.

Yeji didn't respond, but instead grabbed Chaeryeong's sleeve and began sobbing. Chaeryeong's worry deepened—she knew Yeji wasn't just crying because of her foot, but because she had ignored her almost the entire day. Without hesitation, Chaeryeong hugged her tightly and whispered, "I'm sorry."

"C-Chaery, don't you like me kissing you?" Yeji asked innocently between sobs. "No," Chaeryeong said, shaking her head, pulling away from the hug, and looking at Yeji. "Then why did you run? And why didn't you talk to me?" Yeji asked again. "C-ause I-I..." Chaeryeong didn't know what to say to the girl waiting for her answer.

When Chaeryeong took a long time to respond, Yeji simply smiled warmly and said, "I'll just wait for the answer when you're ready, Chaery." Yeji smiled again, and Chaeryeong smiled in relief, because she really couldn't answer the question right now, but she knew she would, eventually.

"Can you get up?" Chaeryeong asked, and Yeji shook her head, still feeling the sting in her foot. "Hop on my back, let's go to the infirmary to get that treated," Chaeryeong said, helping Yeji onto her back. "You're kinda heavy, Yeji, hahaha," Chaeryeong joked. Yeji pouted. "No, I'm not." Chaeryeong laughed. "Yes, you are," she teased, walking while talking to the cat on her back.

"No, I'm not. No one will like me if I'm fat, you know," Yeji said. "If you're fat, I'll still like you. In fact, you'd be even cuter if you were fat, haha," Chaeryeong laughed. Yeji, on the other hand, was already blushing from the comment her human had given her.

The night breeze was a little cold, but Yeji and Chaeryeong decided to stop by the park after buying ice cream from the nearby 7-Eleven. "Did you like the ice cream, Yeji?" Chaeryeong asked, and Yeji nodded excitedly. "I want more though," Yeji smiled, and Chaeryeong laughed. "You can't, it's already night, and the air is cold—you'll get sick," Chaeryeong warned the cat.

Yeji pouted, but while they were talking, they saw an old man—the same one who had helped them before. It was Dr. Kim. Chaeryeong stood up, bowed her head, and quietly explained to Yeji who he was. "Oh, Chaeryeong, it's been a long time. I see Yeji became human, just as I expected," Dr. Kim said, making both girls look at him in shock.

"You know about it, Dr. Kim?" Chaeryeong asked. The old man nodded. "In fact, I'm the one who made Yeji human," he replied. Yeji immediately hugged Dr. Kim, deeply grateful. She broke the hug and said, "Thank you, Mr. Kim, I'm really thankful you made me like this," repeating her thanks over and over.

"No problem, kiddo. How's becoming human?" Dr. Kim asked. "It's amazing! I've learned a lot about humans and about Chaeryeong, and now I can finally protect her with this body and wipe her tears with these hands," Yeji said happily, as Chaeryeong listened.

Yeji's words touched Chaeryeong's heart—she hadn't known Yeji had always wanted to be human to protect her and even wipe away her tears. "How sweet," she thought.

After talking with the old man, they went home, but his final words stayed in both girls' minds: "Yeji, you should find out who you really are before the eclipse comes. On April 25, 2024, be careful when the red full moon rises—there will be danger. If you want to stop it, you should find what you need to find." Those were the last words he spoke before disappearing into the darkness.

Yeji's Dream.

She was in a big house that felt strangely familiar. As she was about to look at a photo nearby, music began playing from a large white and golden door. The door seemed far away, but as she started walking toward it, it suddenly opened, revealing a little boy playing a grand white and gold piano.

His face was blurry. Yeji was almost at the door, but it began drifting farther away, as if it was escaping her. "WAIT!" she shouted, and the boy turned to look at her. Though his face was unclear, she could tell he was looking directly at her. "Unnie..." the little boy said softly. Yeji wondered—did that boy just call her Unnie?
