You glanced up at the clock and let out a long groan.
'3 hours left?? Are you serious right now?!'
There you were, standing at the register of Scott's Pizza. A job that made minutes feel like seconds. You had been working there for a little over a year and regretted not quitting every single day. Even worse that it was an extremely popular Soc spot. You spent hours of your summer watching them tear up the dining room. The amount of horror stories you have should've qualified you for years of free therapy.
"(Y/n) could you do me a favor and give table 5 a shout, they can't be making out on the seat like that. It's scaring the regulars." Your coworkers face displayed disgust and fear as she asked the awful favor.
You sighed and remembered your previously prepared speech.
"Heyyoucan'tbedoingthatinhere.Wehavealotofchildrenwhocomeinhereanditswildlyinnapropriate." You delivered the message in one breath and stared at them as they distanced themselves and laughed at you.
You were walking back to your station as you heard a familiar and whimsical chime coming from next to the register. You saw your coworker begin to reach over.
"PUT THAT HAND DOWN. ITS MINE." You growled as you sprinted to pick up the phone.
They backed away as you reached the counter.
You picked the phone up with a large grin."Scott's Pizza, what may I get for you today?" They listed their order and asked for delivery, your favorite. You grabbed a note pad and scribbled it all down, as well as the address.
After the longest 10 minutes of your life, it was ready. You loaded everything into a carrier box and exited the restaurant beaming with excitement. A long bike ride was exactly what you needed right now, you didn't even care where you ended up. As long as it was as far away from the grimy Socs. You secured the large amount of food to your bike and peddled off.
The weather was perfect. A warm summer day was enough to lift away all your problems. The bike ride reminded you why you still worked at Scott's and gave you a feeling of hope. You couldn't but feel things were going to get better. If only you knew.
You arrived at the address given by the costumer and dropped your bike on the messy lawn. Curiosity filled your head, and with a deep breath you delivered a knock to the withered front door. After a bit of scrambling, a boy about your age appeared in front of you with a look of confusion.
"Hi there! I'm here with the pizza you ordered!" You said with an oh-so-jolly tone. His eyes wandered and he stood there with his mouth open for a couple seconds.
"I-I'm sorry ma'am but I ain't order no pizza."
Oh yikes. You grabbed the notepad from your waistband and held it up for him to see.
"Well that sure is a curiosity. I gotta figure this out, would you like to come in?" A weak smile appeared on his face.
You followed him inside with the pizzas and sat down on the couch. He picked up the phone and started to talking to someone by the name of Darry. After a couple minutes, you spotted the remote and switched the TV on. It was perfect, a way to kill time before having to go back and deal with the nasty Socs. When he got off the phone he came over and joined you.
"Damnit, I hate to tell ya this but I got no idea who ordered these pizzas."
"It's fine. If you're hungry, I don't mind paying for it. I could go for a slice myself, and I don't want to go back to work for a while anyways." You said with a shrug.
"Fine by me." He settled in next to you and reached for a slice. You introduced yourself and started getting to know him. It turned out that you guys went to the same high school. He was actually in a couple of your classes last year and you never noticed! Once the initial awkwardness subsided, you began cracking jokes. He came back at you with a couple good ones, and you both ended up on the floor gasping for breath. How was it that you just met him, yet you clicked so well? After composing yourself, you just looked at him and smiled. He giggled a bit and cocked his head.
"What's that look for? Do I got something in my teeth?"
"Its just cool to make a new friend." He smirked and grabbed another slice. You guys chilled for a bit before the front door swung open. A large group of roughed up boys walked into the room. Thats when it dawned on you, Ponyboy was a greaser. You were in a house full of greasers. Your heart dropped a bit. Your parents warned you of them. You guys weren't high class enough to be Socs, but certainly weren't anything close to being greasers either. All you knew was that greasers were dangerous and reckless. The thought made you slump down in your seat a bit.
"Hey Pony, what's goin on? Who's the bird?" A shorter boy with dark hair asked. The group looked at you like a pack of wild dogs.
"This is my pal (Y/n). Some funny guy ordered pizza here and she delivered it, so I invited her in." He looked over to you and gave a reassuring smile.
"Yeah, I'm paying. So eat up." You picked up an unopened box, walked over to the boys, and held it out for them to take. After processing what was going on, the teenage boys trampled you trying to get to the greasy goodness.
"Y'all gotta calm down. You're gonna suffocate the girl." A tall one yelled as he took the box out of your hands and placed it on the kitchen counter. The crowd moved with him, allowing you to make your way back to the couch. You sat down and Ponyboy gave you a nod of approval.
