As i dumped my bag onto the same old seat that i sat in since 5th grade, i pulled out my homework and made sure everything was finished,

math? check.

english? check.

history? check.

biology? check.

language arts? check.

chemistry? check.

scien-

i looked up and saw a girl running into the class, trying to catch her breath, yes it was pretty distracting.

''I'm not late?! Thank god!'' she said dropping her bag onto her seat and sighing in relief. It was none other than Sophie Chea. She's one of the people who blend into the crowd, but to me, she stands out a lot. We have had strict competition since the age of 6. Her family moved in next to my house and it turns out we're not supposed to like each other. Our families have been enemies since they were in high school, and isn't it ironic on how they suddenly decided to move into the same street as mine? yes it is.

I looked at my watch, it's only 5:30, school doesn't start until like 8:40. I know what you might be thinking, 5:30?! isn't that a bit too early? well, when your family leaves the house at 2 in the morning for their competitions and spelling bees, you don't really have much to do but get out of the house. Yes, my parents do not work, we just kind of live off the money we make from the competitions, by winning of course.

Waiting for school to start is never fun, i walked around the school, checking the classrooms, rarely cleaning some of them. The audacity of some of these monkeys. After i finished cleaning the classrooms and doing whatever i could, i got back to my little seat in class. I pulled out my sketchbook and started sketching stuff, I've always been a big fan of sketching, it helped clear my mind through the hard times. I looked back at the seat Sophie sat in, I wonder what she does to pass the time, maybe she's in the canteen, eating. Or maybe she's practicing for her swim team, either ways i shouldn't really care, as we're supposed to be enemies. I looked back at my sketchbook turns out, i've been sketching nonsense. A cup of coffee? I really must be sleep deprived.

I got up out of my seat in search of coffee, as i walked out the door i bumped into someone

''AH SORRY'' i heard her say, as she looked up again she changed it to ''wait no, watch where you're going dumbass'' see the difference? i rolled my eyes and helped gather up her books then walked to get my coffee, i inserted some money into the vending machine and my coffee rolled out, as i checked my watch, shit, its already 8:35, 3 hours pass by way too fast. I walked back to class and saw Sophie sitting down in her chair finishing up some homework. I looked over to see if i could help and she replied with a ''mind your own business, zach.''

i really shouldn't have bothered.
