The palace seemed even more luxurious as I walked further. There were lots of job stations and guilds. There was even a local fighting arena where elves were sparring.
As we followed the path to the end, a giant castle came into view. When we approached the giant wooden gate, there were two armored elves with spears guarding it. I assumed they were the gatekeepers.
One of the guards came closer and asked for a pass to enter the royal castle. However, upon carefully observing the girl beside me, who was the princess, they were shocked to see her outside the castle.
"Oh! Sorry, Princess. Your Highness is waiting for your arrival," they both bowed down and let us pass through.
As we crossed the giant gate, a path led to the castle. We walked along, and I was amazed by the surroundings. There was a garden beside the path with many types of flowers growing in flower pots. A fountain between the paths flowed with clear blue water, and I could sense some magic energy from it.
The castle itself was a giant white building with clear white walls and a blue roof with flags atop them. The flags bore the mark of a bow made of golden leaves.
Upon entering the castle through a medium-sized doorway, servants and maids stood along the path, kneeling. The path led to an upstairs area, and as we ascended, I sensed five strong presences further ahead.
At the top of the stairs, a red carpet led forward. The carpet was beautiful, adorned with golden ornaments to enhance its beauty. Alongside it, many weapons and armors were displayed, emphasizing the wealth and power of the palace.
Chandeliers made of blue crystals hung from the ceilings, illuminating the place brightly. Each chandelier could light up a dark cave.
Following the carpet to its end, we reached another large gate with two guards. Were these the ones I sensed earlier?
The guards nodded after seeing the princess and opened the gate slowly.
"Don't be impolite in front of them, you understand!"
I nodded. Given the strong presence inside the room, I knew not to offend anyone. As the gate opened, the first thing I noticed were two thrones with enhanced jewels. A male elf sat in the left throne without much expression, wearing black robes and warrior gloves, with a sword resting beside the throne. The aura around him seemed to emit fire-like energy.
On the right throne sat a female elf, quietly smiling. She held a golden long staff with a black sphere on top, surrounded by energy that resembled a protective wind.
I assumed the male elf was the king and a warrior, while the female elf was the queen and a mage. Many elderly elves sat on seats around the room, including a male elf in enchanted armor near the king and queen, likely their personal bodyguard.
Alice pinched my arm, and I bowed down as she did. The king stood up from his throne.
"So, you, young hero, must be the one who killed the Earthworm General, am I right?"
What? Earthworm General? Did the earthworm I killed previously hold some special rank or significance?
"Well, for whatever reason you killed that Earthworm General, you have contributed to helping our citizens. I am willing to grant you anything within my capability."
I was surprised to learn that my actions had helped the citizens of the elf kingdom.
"Can I ask what you mean by protecting the citizens?"
I needed clarification.
"The Earthworm General you killed was very evil. Each time it entered our forest, it started killing surrounding creatures, including our clan of elf species. Since I am the king, I cannot leave my palace to deal with such matters. Killing the Earthworm General saved many elves from becoming its victims. There's your answer. Now, what would you like as a reward?"
