I thought fighting a monster teacher was scary. I thought that running from a wendigo was frightening. But nothing can compare to the indescribable petrification that I feel when I'm looking into the Lord of Nightmares' eyes.
The second I locked eyes with him my mind was filled with memories from my worst dreams. The things that I never want to think about again. Then the visions shift and I see the horrible things that I've experienced in real life. I get bullied and shunned by my best friends. I relive not being able to walk the street without getting called a freak. Worst of all, I see myself leaving my parents, possibly forever.
Abruptly, it all stops. My eyes shine with unshed tears. Now that I can actually focus on Cronan's eyes, I can see that they are pure white. No pupil, no color, just white.
"I did warn you, didn't I?" he says smugly. Fake sympathy is etched across his face. It's obvious that this isn't the first time he's terrified someone.
"There are things better left alone when it comes to asking about me. Understand?" I nod my head with wide eyes.
"Now, let's try this again. Any questions?" I slowly open and close my mouth. I'm unable to find anything to say. I warily look at the elf-like humanoid in front of me. All the dark energy in the room has evaporated. Cronan no longer looks frightening. I decide that it's alright to speak.
"Who am I?" I ask quietly.
"You are someone very important. Would you like for me to elaborate?" I nod again, wondering where this is going.
"There is a special seer ability that has been passed down from generation to generation in a particular family. This family has been able to transform into powerful birds at will. There are more perks unique to each individual, but the said individual would have to work to discover their own talents." When Cronan pauses I try to let this information sink in.
"But what would this family or these powers have to do with me?" I gesture to myself.
"Oh, Merle. I would shame you for your ignorance, but of course you wouldn't know better. The family is your family." He emphasized the word 'your'. I can feel my eyes trying to pop out of my head. It takes me a while to finally speak.
"So this whole time I really have had abilities? I thought I was just powerless or something!" Cronan chuckles. It's a deep laugh that resonates throughout the small room.
"Not even close. You are one of the most powerful seers in the world- at least, you will be once your talents manifest."
No matter how hard I try I just can't seem to make myself believe that. Me? I'm practically just an ordinary teenage girl! Sure, maybe I do have a few abnormal powers, but that doesn't make me any different from the neighbors across the street. Well...maybe a little. But surely I'm not that powerful...right?
"I have little time left." Cronan's voice pulls me out of my thoughts. "I will allow one more question. Choose wisely."
I feel like I should ask more about myself, but I can't help the nagging suspicion that I've figured out one of the mysteries of my day-to-day life. Special....
Someone's words flutter around in my brain.
I'll be watching you, special child.
"Where's Olek?" I ask expectantly. There's a moment of silence.
Then out from the shadows steps the ogre that I've spent years wanting to see again. Taking off his tattered hood, he nods to me.
"Hello, Merle." Olek says. The ghost of a smile is hanging on his lips. "Sorry about tailing you."

Reintroducing: OLEK!!!
I want to explain something to you guys rq. The time gap between when I actually write the chapters and when I publish them on Wattpad is a bit different. I always make sure to be a few chapters ahead so that I have time to plan more. So right now I actually have twenty three chapters written. YuP! TWENTY THREE.
My main struggle right now is trying to NOT get too excited and end up publishing all the chapters I currently have (lmao, classic me).
But I wanted to ask for your opinion. Do you think I should publish as I write from now on? And yes, that would mean me publishing the rest of the chapters I've already written.
ANYWAAAAYS....happy reading!
