Amanda's POV:
If the first day of school was any indication of how this year would go, then it was going to be a long year.
Over the course of the next few months, I continue to try and fly below the radar. I just wanted to finish this year and go to college. No distractions, no drama, no more being ignored.
Although I've crossed paths with Bryan on many occasions, he has yet to say anything to me. Don't get me wrong, he's really cute with his dark brown hair, muscular physique, gorgeous smile, and 6'4" frame. But, the feature I'm drawn to the most is his eyes. Steel grey. I've never seen eyes that color. They are almost mesmerizing even though I don't dare lock eyes with him! There's something swirling around in those grey pools, but I can't put my finger on it. It's like he's seeing me for the first time, but refuses to act on anything. There's mystery there. More to the story, but who knows? It doesn't matter because in less than six months, I will be outta here!
Homecoming is next weekend, which means two things: big parties and swim season is right around the corner. I'm mainly focused on the latter, especially since I'm up for a swim scholarship. I've worked really hard to improve in my individual heats. I just need to keep working in order to impress the coaches and scouts that come to our meets.
"Earth to Amanda! Come in Amanda!" Samantha shouts while waving her hand in front of my face.
"Sorry." I laugh "I was just thinking about swim season."
"You are the only person that skips the major events of a school year," Luke chimes in.
"What can I say? Homecoming, football, and parties just aren't my thing." I shrugged as I pull my books out of my locker.
"Well, it's our Senior year and you MUST attend this year!" demands Sam.
"Really? Do we have to?" I say, annoyed by the whole thing.
"Yes! No exceptions or excuses! Ppppplllllleeeeaaaasssseeee!!" Sam practically begs.
"Okay okay!" raising my hands in surrender. I knew I wouldn't get out of this.
"Yay! Did you hear that Lukey?! She's coming to the homecoming festivities instead of being totally lame this year!" Sam jumps up and down in excitement.
"Hey! I heard that!" I scoffed.
"Yes dear, I heard. Not that you swindled her or anything." Luke adds, rolling his eyes.
I shake my head as we begin walking down the hallway to our first period. I walk in and stop in my tracks as I see Bryan sitting in the back row talking to a few classmates. What's he doing in here? I give a side glance to Sam and Luke, but they seem unfazed by his presence. And just as luck would have it, my desk is right in front of him. With a sigh, I walk to my desk and sit down. I immediately feel eyes boring into the back of my head. Before I'm tempted to turn around, Mrs. Beecher walks in with a stern look on her face.
"Attention class! Due to some schedule changes, there have been additions added to our roster. Please help out where you can so no one feels behind on what we've been studying. In an effort to help everyone catch up, I've paired you with a partner." My eyes go wide and I start to feel clammy. Mrs. Beecher begins calling out the pairs. Of course, Luke gets to partner with Sam. Lucky. She gets toward the end of the roster with only two names remaining: "Tiller and Young, you two will work together from here on out." No, no, no! What the hell! Not that Bryan has ever done anything to me. He's a little scary with his large biceps and intense stare. I slowly turn to look back at him. He looks deep into my eyes. I see a flash of emotions, but can't make out what they are as I dare not linger in his stare. I swallow hard and try to calm my nerves. I look back around at Sam and Luke smirking at me. Ugh! I hate them so much! Not really, but damn! This class just got extremely interesting.
