Bryan's POV:
Knowing Amanda is hyper aware of the situation building around her, fills me with pride. She has soaked up her training like a sponge and is cognizant of the danger. It caught me off guard when she asked for permission to see her mom. I would never keep her from her mom. Although I'm possessive of her, I'm not a control-freak. I am happy to escort her and keep a watchful eye as we travel to her mom's house.
After getting a few hours of sleep and a quick bite to eat, we arrive at Amelia's house. When she opens the door, she is pleasantly surprised to see us. It takes a little time to reach her mom's house as she lives near the border, away from most pack members. Amelia enjoys her privacy and space when not cooking for pack events.
"Hey mom!" Amanda says excitedly, wrapping her mom in a bear hug.
"Well, hello to you, too, babygirl! What brings you way out here?" she looks between the two of us.
"Your daughter was missing you and I'm sure she's eager to catch you up on all that's happened recently." Amelia steps aside and allows us entrance into her home. They take a seat in the living room and Amanda immediately begins filling her mom in on everything. As usual, Amelia listens patiently as Amanda rambles. She's so cute when she rambles. Not wanting to interfere, I pace around the house, scanning the perimeter for any signs of danger.
Hey bro! Where you at? We got another package. We think Alpha Marcus is coming earlier than expected so we need to meet to expedite the plan. I groan at James' mindlink and roll my eyes.
Why can't that douche just leave her alone! Fuck! What was in the package? I respond in frustration.
A video. I feel a shudder down my spine as that one response could have a multitude of meanings. I am well aware of how much torture and abuse Sam and Luke are experiencing. I only hope we can get them back and start the healing process. I don't think Mandy will be able to handle losing them both, neither physically or otherwise. The mental, emotional, and psychological damage could be irreparable. I shudder again.
I'll be there shortly. We are at Amelia's house, catching her up on what's happened. I close the link and head back to the living room. I watch in silence as Amanda's and her mom's laughter fills the room. She catches my appearance.
"Hey! You okay?" Amanda asks as I'm caught staring at them.
"Yeah. Just watching you two enjoy each other's company. But...unfortunately, we need to head back. Alpha has called a meeting." I see her face drop.
"Oh! Before you go, there's something I've been meaning to give you, but things have been a little...well, crazy, for lack of a better description." Amelia gets up from her spot on the coach and scurries into another room. She returns with a box. Both of our curiosities are peaked when she hands the box to Mandy. She eyes her mother with curiosity. I hear Amelia sigh deeply before speaking.
"When your father felt his time was getting short, he decided to write you letters. Some are cards, bits of fatherly advice, life lessons, information about your elemental side, which is why I had to wait until after your 21st birthday to give it to you." Mandy places one hand over her mouth as the tears fall from her eyes and one hand rests on the top of the box. "Take it with you. Read them when you're ready. Your father always wanted to protect you and prepare you for the evils of the world." Amelia reaches out to Amanda's hand and gives it a squeeze. I stare in disbelief. Although I know the truth, my guilt still resides inside me.
We walk in silence back to the pack house. I can feel her emotions through our bond and I decide to let her be. I wrap my arm around her shoulders and pull her into my side. I see her smile lightly while staring at this box. Her hand plays with her father's pendant that she wears every day. She does this when she's nervous or, in this case, an ocean of emotions. I lead her upstairs to our room before I break the silence.
