RAI'S POV

It was a bright Saturday afternoon when I received the following letter:

Dearest Estrella Nurey,

We are elated to inform you that you are among the seven students chosen to join The Crowns Academy this year.

We have analyzed your application and believe that we have made the right choice picking you.

We hope that you can be the cherry on top at Crowns and make our school proud.

I pinched myself to confirm that it wasn't just another dream.

Yap, definitely not a dream.

At that moment, I felt like I owned all the happiness in the world. I tossed the magazine I had been reading, I felt as adrenaline rushed through my veins making my cells feel more alive.

The feeling of happiness washed through me and right there and then, I knew my life would never be the same.

I made my way downstairs as I tied my hair into a ponytail. I always had an urge for a ponytail when making an announcement which was just weird.

"Hola mummy, I have some news for you." I said placing my hands on the counter tops and putting my weight on them to lift myself up.

"What is it? Did you finally paint me in a Tinkerbell costume?" She questioned eyeing me with both suspicion and excitement. At this point I feared she loved Tinkerbell more than me.

"What?" I questioned with an amused smile plastered on my face. My eyelids moving up and down in unintended blinking.

Now I know where I get my weirdness from.

"Anyway, come look at this," I said motioning for her to come over as I handed her the letter. I was trying so hard to stop myself from exploding with excitement.

I was so bad at keeping secret don't even get me started on past incidents that involve secret keeping.

"You're kidding, did you photoshop this? Is this another prank?" She asked suspiciously pointing at me the spoon that she was using to stir soup.

I crawled slowly from the countertops putting as much distance between us as possible because as a Latina mother, that spoon was bound to hit me at any moment.

"Listen mummy, I know your soup is really great and I'm really great at photoshop but this right her is real." I replied cheerfully, a smile forming on my face and tears that I hadn't even realized were there making their way through my eye sockets.
