ᴀᴜɢᴜsᴛ 2"Wait, I didn't catch your name. What is it?" I asked her. Ion know why I didn't even ask for her name when I was talking to Kaejon. Isn't that the first thing you ask bout somebody?
"L- Leilani" she replied with a small stutter. She looked embarrassed, but I found it cute.
"Can I call you Lani? Like, for short?" I suggested. I wanted to have a nickname for her as I think it will bring us closer.
"Yeah sure. Majority of people call me that anyways". Lani agreed with a nod.
Damn. I really thought I would have sum unique. I gotta think bout sum else..
"And your name is Tae.. right?" She asked.
How she already know my name?
"Yeah. My actual name is Dante, but most call me Tae". I responded.
"How you know?" I asked. She just shrugged and had a lil smirk. Made me smile too. I guess I wasn't the only one wondering about her.
I realised she had a slight lisp as she spoke. I think she recently got braces or got them tightened as she isn't fully closing her mouth. I remember when I had braces back in middle school, them shits hurt when you get them tightened.
As we were walking, some people were giving us dirty looks. Mostly to Lani. A group of girls were eyeing her up and down and kissing their teeth. Leilani wasn't really paying attention as she was looking around the school and exploring the place. I'm glad she didn't notice, ion want her worrying bout people right now. That's probably the biggest thing on her mind: what people with think of her. Ion wanna be adding to that stress.
"So, you just moved here or you've been here before?" I questioned.
"I just moved here from Atlanta". She replied, pointing to a sign that read: front, principle and counsellor's office.
I nodded and we turned a corner, following the directions of the sign.
"Oh word? I been wanting to visit ATL again. It seemed like a cool place not gone lie". I've been to a few tournaments there and got to explore the city a bit. It was only for 2 days but it was fun. One of my best memories of last year.
"Ahaha, Atlanta is a really good state I loved it there". Lani responded. "But hold up, when did you go? Last year?" She questioned.
"Uhm, yeah I did.. how do you know?"
Did she see me or sum?
"I was there at the game. I was a cheerleader! The one in red in black and was the main flyer?" She replied with a huge smile on her face. I think I remember her... but ion know-
"Really? Mann, my bad. Sorry I don't remember you".
How did I miss her? I was probably not paying attention. If I knew her from there, imagine how we would be now.
"It's alright. Is this the front office?" She asked.
"Yeah we here" I wish the office was miles away. Then we could talk for longer.

"I gotta go.. imma talk to you later, ight?"
"Alright, see ya!" She responded with a wave and with her beautiful smile again.

I walk into class and look at the board. There's a new seating plan. My eyes quickly scan the board. A smirk crosses my face as i spot my seat next to Jon's. We exchange knowing glances, both aware that we ain't gon get no work done in this class. I walk towards my seat and slide my backpack underneath the table. I dap my boy up, and lean back, grinning."Bro, finally we got a class where we sit together". Kaejon remarks, pulling his book out.
"For real, and we gon be doing experiments here so, you already know it's gon be jokes". I added on, also getting my notebook out.
The teacher lingers at the door, greeting everyone and signalling towards the board, giving us a moment to settle down and chill.
"Guess who I just spoke to?" I asked Kaejon with a smirk.
"By the way you asked, I already know it was a female. Diana?". He guesses.
Diana? Is this guy for real.. bruh.
"Nigga, hell no".
"Damn my bad, I thought y'all were still talking".
"Nah bro, that was a lil summer thing. Plus, you already know who I got my eyes on now". I say.
Me and Diana had a lil thing going on in summer. There really wasn't anything serious in the relationship though, I wouldn't even call it one. At the time, I had just broken up with my ex girlfriend, and I just needed to replace her with someone else for a while, to get away from the hurt. We both agreed that it wasn't an actual relationship, we just fucked a couple times. I never really loved her, she didn't either. She actually had a boyfriend. It's messed up, I know.. but, im passed that type of shit.

"Ohh, you talking bout Leilani, ain't you?". He finally realises.
"Yeah, I saw her. Walked her to the front office, had a lil chat".
"Look at you, getting your game on". He playfully nudges my shoulder.
"I bet you real happy that she does come to our school, ain't you?"
"Of course. Now I get to see her more often".
The teacher interrupts our banter, calling for our attention. As the room settles into silence, I exchange a non verbal glance with Kaejon, acknowledging the shared amusement. The teacher begins the lesson, and we focus, or at least pretend to.
