We headed home on foot. We wanted to take a walk, not that I couldn't take the car or something.
"So, should I call you like 'babe' right now? I assume the whole school already knows about what you said about us." - I started as we were walking on the sidewalk.
"I mean, why not?" - he stared in my eyes and laughed cutely. - "Alright, I'm sorry about that, I did not intend to put you in uncomfortable situation." - he added.
"It's okay, no worries." - as we were peacefully walking, someone grabbed my hand and turned me around.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" - said a female voice.
It was Christina, Madeline's sister. She wasn't as spoiled and rude as her, but not an angel either.
"What, are you following me, Christina?" - I asked.
"I'm tryna help you, girl!" - she replied.
"Yo, leave Michelle alone! Y'all need to stop bothering her!" - Marcus uttered.
"Excuse, me what was your name again?!" - Christina inquired as she got mad at Marcus.
"I'm not telling you my name, just leave! We have nothing to do with you if you're related to Madeline."
"Listen, don't you even think of coming to school next week, Maddie and Brian are planning something huge for you! You don't wanna go through it." - warned me she.
"Why would I trust you? I don't even know you, you just gotta leave us alone. I can't handle that stuff any longer. Don't even talk to me!" - I said trying to get her out of our privacy.
"You'll hear me!" - Christina pushed me and I dropped all my books and notebooks on the road behind us.
"Yo, what're you doing?! You better pick them up!" - Marcus raised his tone.
"It's okay." - I said quietly and started picking them up in the middle of the road.
"Well, If you could listen to me, I wouldn't do that!" - she told him. - "I don't care, go away! And don't approach her again, okay?" - he said.
Then it happened so fast....
A reinforced car showed up on the road out of nowhere, while I was still picking up the books.
I couldn't even hear it. Marcus couldn't as well as he was arguing with Christina.
In the last second before hearing the car's horn I told myself "That was it, Michelle. That was it. You had those several plans for your future, but none of them came true. You didn't invent anything, you couldn't make the world a better place as you promised your mom. You're pathetic as they were saying! You didn't prove them wrong! You're a zero! But it no longer matters since that's the end!"
I closed my eyes as I heard the horn and let the destiny does what it wanted to do.
It never happened though. I realized I was still alive as I opened my eyes and saw Marcus on the ground, the other side of the sidewalk, out of breath and holding on his bloody knee.
He saved me??? As I could feel, Marcus pushed me on the sidewalk, taking himself on risk.
I guess he happened to be closer to the car and while trying to pass to the sidewalk fell on his knee. His hind got scratched, but at least it didn't bleed.
Something else I noticed, Christina ran away, just after seeing me almost hit by a car by her fault.
I was still in shock. I have gone only with a few lightweight scratches due to the fall on the sidewalk.
"Oh my god, Marcus are you okay?!" - I got so worried.
"Yeah,... I'm fine. Are you okay?" - he said.
"Come on, let's go home!" - I helped him up and the whole way to my house.
I put him lay down on the couch and went to the kitchen for the first-aid kit.
"I'm sorry! I should not have been in the middle of the road. I didn't even see where it came from. It's all my fault. But you shouldn't have risked your life! You literally stood in front of the car because of me. You sure, you're okay?" - I asked once again and stared cleaning the blood.
"It's okay. Not a big deal, just forget it." - he uttered with quiet and cute voice.
"Not a big deal? I owe you my life!" - "I mean, that was my debt." - Marcus replied.
"Honestly, I've never experienced anything similar. You like saved me and my bag from a thief, got rid of my annoying neighbor, put in place the dumb bullies, and saved my life within 2 days. How are you doing this?" - I asked.
He laughed with me. I bandages his knee after taking care of the wound.
We basically watched movies the half night and enjoyed each other's company. Not long after we fell asleep.
