"There is nothing in here, either. I think we should give up." - I tried to convince Ivonne to stop this.
"No, keep searching! There gotta be something! I know their dad used to buy plenty of properties for his sons. Lucas did tell me there were also some documents and stuff. I need those!" - she replied and kept opening the cabinets and making a mess in them.
"Okay, but why do you assume that Marcus has the documents? It makes no sense, they're probably in one of their older brothers or maybe Lucas."
"Girl, I live with Lucas, he doesn't have anything. And I doubt that Aurelia and Boz have given all the data and documents to Darius or Cyrus. Marcus has been their favorite child, according to Lucas. But I don't know, I don't know where could he put it. I'm in a dead end right now. Where are the freaking documents?!" - said Ivonne as she threw some stuff on the floor in her anger.
"Why would Marcus has those documents? He was literally homeless when I met him. I know he's been living with his aunt and stuff. If he had those documents of their father's properties, wouldn't he be living in one of them? That doesn't make any sense, you're obviously searching for them in the wrong place." - I uttered.
"Then tell me what to do! I no longer can think of an idea!" - Ivonne raised tone.
"We need to think sober. Lucas and Marcus have been 11 years old when their parents passed away, so I don't think any of them could have been able to get the documents after moving out."
"Yeah, but someone's gotta have them. I don't think Cyrus has them, because he's living in his girlfriend's apartment in Los Angeles. Darius lives for rent in Chicago with his girlfriend, so it's not him either." - replied she.
"I don't know, you're definitely missing some important detail or something. Maybe none of the brothers has it, and they never knew about their father's properties as well." - I said.
"No, no, someone definitely has it! And I'm gonna figure out who it is! I'm not leaving that half finished!" - she was too confident in what she was saying. - "You know your next task, you have to interrogate Marcus about that stuff. But don't make it too obvious, alright? And make it quick, I don't got no time to waste!" - Ivonne added and left.
I sighed in agony, because of what I'm doing. I'm basically helping a criminal steal my boyfriend's heritage from his dead parents. I'm a bad person...
I went to my bedroom and opened one of my cabinets, where I keep my books. I just wanted to find myself a good book to help me out with the stress.
I took out some books and what to see the inward...
I saw a few folders, full with documents, permits, property ownership certificates and....court cases?
Since I'm not a lawyer or something I couldn't understand nothing of what the documents were saying at all.
So I had to take some actions.
I called one of my father's friends, who is a lawyer.
"Hey, Jena, how's it going? I'm Michelle, it's been a while, right?"
"Michelle, I'm so happy to hear you! How are you?"
"I'm doing good, um...I'm calling you because I want you to take a look at some documents and stuff, is that okay?"
"Of course, yeah, why not? Everything for you, I'll send you an address. How's that?"
"That sounds great, thank you! Appreciate it! See ya!"
"Bye, sweetie!" - I hung up the phone and headed to her office. I got there and met her. We sat in her office.
"Okay, so what do we have here?" - she asked.
I handed her the folders.
"So, I wanna know what are all of those permits, property ownership certificates and court cases are about. Are they available?" - I explained.
She took a look at them.
"I see, most of them are pretty old like five years ago. There are houses and flats certificates in lots of different cities. All of them are in Marcus Dobre's name."
"That means, he owns them? His parents left all the properties to him?" - I inquired shocked.
"Yeah, so basically, this guy's parents left all the heritage to him, and his brothers Cyrus and... Darius Dobre lead a case against Marcus Dobre in order to receive the properties for themselves. They sued him and beg for the properties to be on their behalf since their little brother has mental problems." - explained Jena.
"What? How's that possible? What kind of big brothers sue their little brother just to get properties?" - I couldn't believe my ears.
"Looks, like they have presented a document for evidence that Marcus has a mental problems. He's been in a mental clinic asilment, that's what they presented. Cyrus and Darius Dobre declare their brother unable to manage the property of their parents and beg the judge everything to be distributed among them."
"Did they win the case?" - I asked.
Marcus did tell me he's been in a clinic, because of Ivonne. I can obviously see that his mental health is great.
"Um,....however the judge decided not to let Darius and Cyrus own the properties after many mental health tests done on Marcus Dobre, and his twin brother Lucas Dobre's indications. So, the court respects parents' decision on who to leave their values to. In 2019 the case ends and everything is left on Marcus Dobre's behalf." - told me Jena.
"So, that's how it ends?" - I inquired again.
"Marcus Dobre even claimed to not want any of the properties and asked the judge to give the heritage to his brothers, adding that the only thing he wanted is his brothers to take care of him." - she told me.
Sounded like something Marcus would say. I even got upset myself. Like I don't know how would I feel if I had brothers and they did that to me.
"Have you dealt with something like that, Jena?"
"Yeah, I mean a lot of people do this out there. They don't mind sueing their family members for money or properties. They even stop talking to each other, after fighting over their heritage. It's very common nowadays." - she responded.
"Yeah, probably... Anyways, thank you so much, Jena! I really appreciate it!"
"Of course, if you need anything you can always call me!"
We hugged and I left. Marcus has probably came back. I headed to home, because the thought of leaving Ivonne and Marcus by themselves while Lucas is asleep gave me jitters.
