Marcus's POV

I left the house and started walking in the rain while wiping my tears. I turned around to make sure no one was following me. I ran as far as I could in the rain, stepping in all the puddles and mire everywhere, sobbing and crying my eyes out.

After a bit of running away from the house, I felt lightheaded and out of breath. I stopped and held on some fence's wall with my hand.

Flashback 8 years ago

"Marcus, you know I teach you all the things I learned those years I lived, right?" - says his mom.

"Yeah, you're such a good example for us, mom!" - he replies.

"Another thing you should know is to never break a promise! It doesn't matter who the promise was to. You should always keep your word! If someone asks you to make a promise, that means it's very important for them and they wouldn't tell anybody about it. Did you get it?"

"Oh, like what you did to grandma?" - Marcus asks.

"Yeah, I broke my promise to my mother and instantly regret it, cause I lost her. Remember never breake a promise!" - she claims.

"I will never brake a promise, I promise!" - utters the boy.

Flashback ends

I sharply dropped on the floor on my knees in my grief and kept crying in the rain.

I was on the sidewalk near the deserted street. I was all soaked and wet but didn't care at all.

I looked at my palms through my blurred eyes just to see them leaned in blood and mud from the strong fall I did.

My hands started shaking as I saw the blood and more tears fell as well.

"I-I killed my mom! I killed her! I broke my promise to her as well!" - I told myself out loud as I took the blood on my hands as a sign.

"I should have told them about the cancer! But I promised!" - I uttered as I put my hands over my head and ears.

"I suck! I'm such a bastard!"

Suddenly I heard someone calling my name.

"Marcus! Marcus, come back!" - it was Michelle. I could hear her approaching.

She saw me and came to me.

"Marcus! Marcus, are you okay? Come on let's go home, you'll catch a cold! It's okay!" - she took my upper arm and helped me up.

We got back to the house. Michelle stopped me right before we were about to get in there.

"Marcus, look at me!" - she said.

I looked at her with wicked look, still having tears in my eyes. She saw them. I couldn't hide it.

"Listen, you've done nothing wrong! I'm sure you're misunderstood and I can understand how you feel about it. What I gotta say is that you're the strongest person, and something like that wouldn't destroy you!" - Michelle hugged me tight.

"I won't let you down!" - she whispered in my ear.

We got in the house. I didn't have the courage to look anyone in the eyes so I ended up staring at the floor.

"Are you okay?" - Lucas hurried to ask as he saw my condition.

"Yeah, I'm fine..." - I uttered quietly and headed to my room.

"Marcus, I didn't know about-" - started Dari but I cut him off.

"I don't wanna talk about this, just leave me alone." - I went to my room.

Michelle came with me.

"Are you alright for real?" - "I'm alright." - I claimed.

Michelle stared at me.

"That was your mom's will, stop blaming yourself! She had a reason to tell only you."

"How do I get out of this pit, Michelle?! My brothers hate me, they've been watching me burn 6 years, but no one found out! Although Darius and Cyrus never phoned me again, and behaved rude and indifferent to me, I still believed they loved me, cause we're brothers after all. That's what family does, right? I'm asking seriously cause I'm not sure if your family is supposed to love you or despise you.

But I don't blame them. They have their rights to want a part of our parents things. I'm basically the reason for our parents' death. I never said I wanted those things, though! I don't want them! I'd rather be homeless than take or sell all of the properties, and leave my brothers on the street, working for peanuts!

But it's not up to me! All I ever wished for was to have my brothers asking me if I'm good, or just tell me they love me, are they proud of me, are they not proud of me....? Do I wish for too much?!" - I opened up to her.

"I know, I read it in your eyes." - she said and went to the bathroom to get bandages for my palms.

"You do, but they don't. I just wish I never existed!"

"Don't talk like that, everyone has a purpose on the world! You don't exist for no reason." - Michelle told me and started taking care of my hands.

"There are tough times, there are easy times! After every winter comes spring!" - she added.

"You're right. I just gotta make it through the winter." - I uttered.

"Let me talk to Cyrus and Darius real quick, I'll be back!" - she left.

Michelle's POV

I headed to the kitchen and as I opened the door to leave Marcus's room I saw Ivonne in front of me, probably eavesdropping our conversation. She was staring at me with death look.

I quickly shut the door. I tried ignoring her and kept walking to the kitchen.

She grabbed my arm to stop me and turned me to her.

"What the hell are you doing?! Did I say you can do stuff on your own accord?!" - she was furious.

"What are you talking about?? I don't owe you an explanation!" - I responded.

"You little-" - Ivonne grabbed my hair as hard as she could, bringing me forcibly to the bathroom.

"Ah, what are you doing?! Let go!" - I shouted.

She locked us in the bathroom and pressed me to the wall, grabbing my neck and strangling me.

"How come you be defending Marcus in front of his brothers?! Did I say you can do stuff on your own accord, huh?! Don't get your f*cked a*s in this or else I'm gonna freaking murder your lover! You're so dumb, you witch!"

I was trying so hard to breathe and I even started moaning and coughing from pain.

My hands were over hers, trying to take them out of my neck, but she was stronger.

"We're supposed to work together! You're f*cking messing with me!"

Ivonne finally let go of me and I dropped on the floor, coughing and holding my neck, sobbing.

"But why am I surprised?! You're obviously stupid. You love and chose that crappy coward over all the hot guys that have a crush on you. What's wrong with you? There was no one better than that asshole right there?" - Ivonne got on my nerves.

"Screw you!" - I yelled at her face.

"You're very much allowing yourself!" - Ivonne slapped me pretty hard, leaving a mark on my face.

I faced the floor, holding my cheek from the pain, and crying.

"His brothers will keep hating him and you're the one that's making sure they do! If they start loving him all my plans are f*cked off, do you get it?! I don't care how, but they're gonna hate him to death! Did you hear me?!"

I looked at her with anger and tears in my eyes and nodded.

"You better did, you brat!" - she left.

I kept crying in the bathroom by myself, holding my mouth shut with my hand from crying out loud.
