Cut Brakes

Came time for lunch. We sat four of us to eat on the table. Michelle cooked for us as always.

"So, how long are we staying in Maryland, again?" - Ivonne hurried to ask Lucas.

"Chill, babe we're not in a hurry. Didn't you miss Maryland?"

"Babe, I'm bored here. I don't feel comfortable. I miss Bleu." - she kept complaining.

Me and Michelle were just listening to her in annoyance.

"No one's forcing you to stay in Maryland. If you're that bored here, then leave." - I said.

"I didn't need your opinion. Babe, he's being rude!" - she replied.

"Okay, stop arguing! Everything's good. We'll figure out later what to do and when or whether to go back in London or no." - told her Lucas.

"By the way, babe, I got a surprise for you tonight." - Ivonne smiled.

"Really? What is it?"

"I organized a party tonight in your honor. It's also a new year party, since it's 31-st. My cousins and friends are coming from Virginia. You haven't met them yet, neither have they, so I thought why not to introduce you to them."

"Oh, thank you, babe, appreciate it! I'm excited to meet them, though." - uttered Lucas.

"We can be pretty much delayed, so Marcus and Michelle don't wait for us late tonight, okay?" - said Ivonne.

"They can come with us. They haven't met your relatives but we're becoming a family, since we're having a baby. It's better to welcome the new year together. Are you down, Marcus?" - Lucas suggested.

"I don't know....I don't really like those things..." - I wondered.

"Come on, bro it will be funny."

"What? No, no, they'll be bored there. Not possible." - she tensed.

"Yeah, actually we're coming. Right, Michelle?" - I agreed due to Ivonne's suspicious behavior.

"I mean, why not?" - supported me Michelle.

Ivonne got in a shock and didn't say a single word the whole lunch.

We were done with the food and me and Michelle went to our bedroom. After some hours it was time for the party.

"Why are you making me do this? I don't like parties. I don't know a single person of her relatives or friends either." - Michelle was upset.

"Listen, Ivonne's got something on her mind, she was acting sus. I wouldn't leave Lucas by himself with her." - I explained.

"Okay, but what if she does something to you? She's dangerous."

"Don't worry about me, she wouldn't dare to do anything to me. I know all her secrets." - I stroked Michelle's hair and kissed her cheek.

Suddenly a phone rang out loudly. It was in Lucas and Ivonne's room.

We looked at each other and I ran to pick up the phone.

Lucas and Ivonne had already headed to the party earlier since they're the organizators.

Male voice told me something frightening.

"Does the deal stay for tonight? We won't wait any longer! If you don't bring Lucas Dobre to us, we will take him ourselves and you won't get revenge or money! So, get rid of his dumb a*s brother and get the plan started!" - he closed the phone.

I didn't say anything. I was in shock. I dropped the phone as I couldn't hold anything in that moment.

Michelle entered the room.

"What? What happened? Are you okay?" - she said.

"Let's go! I'll tell you on the way!" - "Wait for me!" - she shouted.

I grabbed the keys and ran outside, she ran after me. It was raining.

"Just get in the car!" - I said. - "Okay, I'm coming!" - we got in the car and headed off to the party with full gas and the wipers turned on to max.

"Hold up, slow down! What's wrong? We were supposed to go to the party, weren't we?" - inquired Michelle.

"The party, the cousins, everything was a lie! She's about to hand Lucas to some men, they were talking about some revenge and stuff.... I need to stop them now!" - I uttered as I was going with 100 mph.

"What are you talking about?! That doesn't make any sense. Are you sure?"

"I'm being dead serious, Michelle!" - I yelled.

"Stop the car, we should call the police! This is way too dangerous!" - told me Michelle.

"It's too late, I'm not wasting more time!"

"Marcus, calm down please! That's not a joke. We need a plan." - she was about to cry.

"You shouldn't have come, now I'm risking your life too!" - I told her.

"I'm not leaving you on your own! And put your seatbelt, please you're going too fast!" - she advised me, but I was that stupid not to do it.

I speeded up more, when suddenly a huge truck showed up in front of me on my road lane out of nowhere. It was on the opposite road lane for some reason. Maybe overtaking another car and didn't see me.

It happened too quick. I remember seeing the truck in front of me for a milliseconds before it happened.

As I was going too fast, and the other road lane had plenty of cars I had to press the brakes as soon as possible.

Well, that didn't happen. I pressed the brakes like 10 times, but it didn't seem to work. Nothing was happening. The car kept going with 100 mph towards the truck.

"What's going on?! Stop the car! There's a truck!" - Michelle panicked so did I.

The rain made the situation even worse, because of the bad visibility.

"I'm trying, but the freaking brakes aren't working! What the f*ck is going on?!" - I swept out in panic still pressing the brakes.

"Marcus, stop it! We're about crash!" - the truck was approaching us, pressing the horn at us, but I couldn't help it.

In the last moment before the disaster I accepted the death, coming on for me. I'm assuming that was my fate. I didn't really have a meaning on this world, anyway. I had one job to save and help my twin brother. I couldn't make it. Hopefully you'll forgive me, Lucas, but I'm not coming back to help you. I tried to, but I failed.

Yeah, but....what about her? She doesn't have any fault. She got involved in that stuff because of me. And now I'm gonna let her die with me? I'm not letting this happen. I need to save her, or at least try to.

In the last second, before us hitting forth with the truck, I decided to do something.

I managed to turn to the right off the road, where there was like a meadow and we ended up crashing straight to a big tree with 100 mph with no brakes.

The sound of us crashing was horrifying. The car was all crashed and broken, and there was no memory of the glass or its front part.

The rear of the car had oil flowing, and smoke was coming out in front.

It was terrifying......
