Twenty.five

"Hi can I use your phone?" I ask the lady at the front desk

"Yes" she smiles and hands me her actual phone and I just meant to use the hospital phone

I type in the Uber dudes number

"Hello?"

"Hello?"

"This is Autumn you dropped me off at the emergency room, I was wondering if I could get a ride back to my house"

"Yeah no problem, I'm actually a few blocks over I can be there in five minutes" he says

"Great, we'll be here, thank you so much"

"No problem miss"

I hang up and hand the lady her phone back and say thank you

Madison can stand by herself, but she's still super tired

"Can I stay the night at your house?" She asks eyes closed and leaning her head on my shoulder

"Yes, if there's a room open" I laugh

"Thank you Autumn, for real I know I'm drunk and might not remember all of it but thank you. I don't deserve this."

"It's fine" I say, but I don't think I've processed how much I went out of my way tonight. It's just having such a big heart literally sucks.

I see the familiar car pull up and walk outside

"I know it's so late, really thank you for doing this" I tell the guys

"It's my job, I enjoy it" he smiles "my names Josh"

"Hi Josh, I'm autumn and this is Madison..." I say looking at the sleeping girl slouched all over me

"It's been a long night huh?" He laughs

"It's been a long few days, but tonight yes super long." I exhale

"Well thanks for giving me business, my wife cheated on me and moved out with her boyfriend who is five years younger than her, we're both thirty four, and left me with our seven year old son." He sighs

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that's really nothing compared to my last few days, I hope everything works out" I say feeling really bad for the guy

"I make good money but it's really just enough to pay rent and you know that rent isn't the lowest thing in that neighborhood my wife and I went half in half so it was easier but now I'm taking less hours so I can take care of my son so I'm hoping I make rent this month  " he laughs

"No it's not low, and your wife is horrible pardon me but how can you leave your child like that? And does you son not go to school?"

"It's fine, and he does but he goes to public it's 20 minutes out of my way to work so I've been late all this week, and my wife and I's schedule worked out to where she could take him and pick him up and watch him for the hour until I get off and she would go back into work, she's a nurse but I've heard she's quit, the guy is super rich"

"Going out on a limb, but I don't do anything really...I have a lot of free time and I'd love to help you if you'd want, I have my own car, my own place, and pretty much all the time in the world"

"Really? Itd help a lot, I couldn't pay you much"

"Don't even worry about paying me, really" I say serious

"Okay, he's out of school tomorrow but his uncle has volunteered to watch him, I'll come by later tomorrow and talk about a schedule Okay?"

"Sounds great!" I smile and see my house in our view
