(Lucas's Perspective)
Living in this house is boring as shit.
Sure, we had enough money to buy toys and stuff, but when you get bored you get bored. It sucks when your parents stay in their room all day and only leave to go to work; never to spend time with you or your five siblings that they were willing to put in the effort to have but not to raise.
It was around eleven in the morning when I woke up on the bottom bunk of the bunkbed I share with Violet.
She was tossing and turning up there, which was part of what woke me up.
I groaned.
"Stop moving around! You're making the bottom bunk shake, you idiot." I said.
Violet and I love each other as much as our prick siblings Andrew and Allison love each other, but Violet and I show our siblingly love for each other differently than
Andrew and Allison do.
Andrew and Allison never fight, and if they do it's never in front of the rest of us. They protect each other just like Violet and I protect each other, but the difference between me and Violet, and Andrew and Allison, is that Violet and I can beat each other up and call each other names all we want without even second-guessing whether or not we're on good terms, because that's just how we are with each other.
I love my little sister to death, and it pissed me off when Andrew hurt her.
Now I'm not gonna go attempting murder against Allison or anything, but I think she deserved to have that knife stabbed through her door. She practically asked for it. Even though I'm a violent person, I only fight for two reasons. The first reason is if the other person starts it, and the second is if the person I'm fighting really deserves it.
And right now, Allison would really deserve it.
But I just woke up. It's too early to be dealing with this shit.
"Shut up, Lucas." Violet said from above in response to what I had said.
"You woke me up, so you're lucky I don't come up there and punch you until you're sleepin' again." I said, not meaning it.
She knew I didn't mean it.
Even if our parents were really in our lives, Violet's never been the annoying, whiny, tattletale type of little sister, and that's something I'd appreciate about her even if we weren't this close.
"Yeah? Can't knock me out if I knock you out first." she replied competitively.
"I'm not fighting you now; it's too early." I protested.
"That's 'cause you know I'd win." she insisted.
"You're wrong." I replied.
"I'm right and you know it." she insisted.
I groaned with frustration.
"I'm not arguing with someone who barely passed the second grade." I said with a smile.
"Hey, you and I both know that teacher had something personal against me. I'm a smart kid." Violet insisted.
"On the first day of school you told your second grade teacher that her voice was annoying. By the end of the first week you had called her a bitch, an idiot, annoying, and a snob!" I argued.
"Not to her face!" Violet defended herself.
"Yeah; instead you loudly told it to your playground friends when you knew she'd overhear you!" I shouted.
"Shut the fuck up! It's too early for this!" our older brother Noah shouted from the other room.
"Yeah, tell that to Violet!" I said.
"You're the one yelling!" Henry yelled.
I groaned with frustration again.
This argument continued for a little while, until eventually we all stopped, because it was dumb.
I looked down at the floor and reached down.
I grabbed the TV remote off of the floor, and turned on the TV.
I put on Pet Sematary.
"I wanna watch Cujo." Violet said stubbornly.
"Yeah; they've both got a psycho animal, what's the difference?" I said.
"The difference is that Cujo is better." Violet insisted.
"The difference is that Pet Sematary is already on." I replied.
"Go to Hell." Violet said.
"Already here." I replied.
She giggled.
We watched the movie, and enjoyed our boring Sunday together.
