Working at Hawks' agency had seemed like the opportunity of a life time. It was going to look great on applications in the future but... it wasn't at all what I expected.
Instead of hitting the streets and patrolling with Hawks or even his sidekicks I was left in the office to get coffee and run errands.
It was humiliating and it was pissing me off that I was just being treated like my time there didn't matter.
Around the third day I got fed up and I harshly placed the coffee cup in front of Hawks on his desk.
He looked up from his phone and raised an eyebrow. "You good kid?"
I fold my arms over my chest and glare at him. "No! I'm not good! I've been here three days and the only thing you've managed to teach me is how to make your coffee! I'm supposed to be learning from you!"
He sat his phone down and chuckled. "Oooh. So you wanna learn then huh? Sorry to disappoint kid but I'm just not the teaching type." He said as he leaned back in his desk chair.
I dug my nails into the palms of my hands and narrow my eyes. 'Then why bring on a student intern?!"
He shrugged. "The commission said I should. Not like I would have picked you personally after all. You're not a flying type."
My eyes widened.
"What do you mean? You didnt... pick me?"
He smirked a little and stood. "Oooh did you think I thought you were special? The only note worthy thing you did at the festival was make that glorious sound as you smacked against the wall out of bounds. You're weak without someone else's quirk and if you can't learn to control it better it'll never be useful in the real pro hero scene."
My face turned red as he tore me down so low, katsukis harassment swirled in my head, echoing and stabbing at my heart again and again.
"You're wrong." I said as I balled my fists at my side.
He raised an eyebrow at me and holds his smirk.
"Really? How so princess? Do tell me why I'm wrong."
I slowly lift my gaze and swallowed hard, "You're wrong because as long as my heart beats I will stop at nothing to protect those who need protecting. Quirk or not. I will be a great hero for people. One way or another." I say through gritted teeth.
"And how do you plan to do that? You can hardly fight."
"I could fight you!" I spat back without a single moment of thought and this seemed to amuse him.
"What was that?" He mused as he leaned down to look me in the eyes and I grit my teeth.
"I could fight you." I repeat slowly.
I watched him as he looked deep into my eyes for a moment before shrugging. "Alright then. Come with me." He said as he sauntered out into the main office with me quickly at his heals.
We got into an elevator that took us down about 10 stories and opened up to a floor wide combat training area. "My side kicks use this place for training. We are gonna use it to prove my point." He said as we stepped inside and he pulled off his signature aviator jacket and he tossed it aside before spinning on his heals.
"Now don't worry kid I wont hurt ya too bad. Just gonna pin ya. Then you can run and get my lunch down the street while you think about your usefulness."
I kicked off my shoes and steadied myself in place across from him.
"And when I pin you down you can admit to getting your ass kicked by a rookie with useless quirk!" I barked back.
He smirked and in the next second his wings puffed up and he came at me in a fash of red feathers.
I dropped down, bending backwards at my knees until I was flat on my back, before reaching up and grabbing his ankle to not only pull myself back up but to use his own momentum to swing him around and send him flying back with a spin.
He skid to a stop back where he'd begun and looked at me with a mixture of shock and amusement.
"Maybe this will be interesting." He said with a smile as I took my stance again.
He then gave a powerful flick of his wings and sent a barrage of sharp feathers my way which I had to tuck and roll to avoid, one of them hitting me in the arm but i refused to let it slow me down as I popped back up and charged at him, he blacked my punch I had aimed at his face and he grabbed my wrist before flinging me over his head and away from him, sending me rolling until I hit the wall, laying on my side, facing away from him.
He approached slowly as I laid there and let out a small groan of pain.
"Ok kid. I'll give you this. You've got a fighting spirit and all so maybe you'll make a good side kick for some no timer." He said as he crouched behind me and reached out to grab my shoulder but no sooner did he crouch did two wings sprout from my back like an air bag in a car accident, giving him a face full of feathers and sending him back like a spring.
I began to chuckle as I coughed up blood.
"See now... I know my quick isn't helpful on its own. That's why I have to be smart, fast, calculating and patient. I have to make sure my opponent under estimates what I can do because you never know when I'll nab a power." I say as I pull my self to my feet and flex the wings as Hawks sits up and holds his busted nose.
I rush forward and kick him hard in the ribs, making him tumble back more before I hop onto his his back and press him into the padded floor. "Consider your fine feathered ass schooled." I whisper in his ear.
