Chapter 14: Avoidance day

When both of them got to the dorm, they ate and Jaemin went to bed faster as he wanted to.

Raewon watched him with a blank look before falling asleep, worried that she had done something wrong but she preferred not to think about it.

Waking up in the morning, Raewon noticed that the bed on the opposite side was empty. Strange. Jaemin always leaves later than her but today he surprised her. It looks like he's deliberately trying to avoid contact with her. It doesn't make the situation or her mood any better.

She wanted to find him and make him talk but knowing Jaemin, forcing him wouldn't work. Instead she has to wait for him to open up and tell her everything.

Entering the classroom five minutes before class, Raewon noticed Jaemin sitting in his seat with his head resting on his elbow.

Suddenly Jaemin turned his head and their eyes met but it was only for a moment. Raewon felt someone touching her shoulder from behind.

"Hi, Rae~"

"Oh, Chenle, hi~"
She answered him with the same enthusiasm, focusing all her attention on him, forgetting about Jaemin who was staring at the couple fiercely from a distance.

"I wanted to ask you before the class starts. Would you like to go out and eat something or just go for a simple walk?"

Raewon looked at him thoughtfully.

"O-of course you don't have to agree, it's just plain meaningless-"

"Why not."
She replied with a broad smile.

"R-really? Oh my God. I mean, cool. It's cool. I will text you the details. How does it sound?"

"Fine. See you later."

"Bye~"

Chenle patted her head before walking away happily bouncing down the hall. Raewon laughed at the sight, meanwhile Jaemin scoffed unnoticeable.

When Raewon reached her seat next to Jaemin, he avoided her gaze by looking at the desk. Raewon sensed the situation and decided that it was better to play it cool with him.

"You left the room quickly today. Avoidance day huh? Haha"
She was trying to stay calm and not show that she was disappointed.

"Kinda."
He replied nonchalantly and began tearing pages out of his notebook. Raewon had deja vu and guessed what he was going to do next.

The lesson continued and Jaemin was folding his paper ravens with concentration. Every now and then Raewon looked up from the notebook and watched as his fingers gently glided over the paper. At one point, she started staring. Her mind wandered to the moments when she touched his smooth hands.

When she shook it off, Jaemin stared blankly at her. He didn't mind her looking at him. In fact, he himself liked to look at her. To him, Raewon was like a painting that he could admire forever.

"S-sorry."
She whispered and looked away.

"Do you have any plans for today?"
Jaemin asked with determination in his voice without taking his eyes off the folded paper.

"Actually, I'm going for a walk with Chenle."

"And maybe eat something later."

"Uh-ah."
Jaemin whispered still not looking at Raewon.

"If you want, you can join."

"No, thank you."

He didn't want to sound mean but he didn't want her to hear the jealousy in his voice either. Maybe it was childish behavior on his part but he couldn't stand the thought of Raewon hanging out with boys that liked her.

"Okay, let me know if you change your mind."

When the lesson ended, Jaemin got up from his seat, took his things and left the classroom, leaving the paper ravens on the desk. Raewon, seeing the papers he had abandoned, reached for the bag and put the small birds inside so that they would not crumple. She gathered the rest of her things and walked over to the exit as well, thinking about Jaemin's behavior.
