The English class felt like it lasted forever, but finally the bell rang for a break and I practically ran out of the classroom. Ray followed me a bit more calmly. I stopped outside of the classroom and took my phone out of my pocket.

"I'll try to call her", I told Ray who had stopped next to me. He nodded.

I dialled Lindsey's number and put the phone on my ear. It rang a few times before she answered.

"Hi", she said, sounding very tired.

"Hi, I was just wondering why you aren't at school. Is everything okay?" I asked, a bit worriedly as I started to walk towards the usual meeting place with Ray.

"Yeah, I'm just sick. Sorry I didn't text or call you. I only called to school that I'm not coming and then fell back to sleep", Lindsey answered.

"Oh... It's okay. I was just a bit worried. Do you want me to stop by later to bring you homework?" I asked.

"You don't have to do that, not at least today. I already know I'm not going to be able to come at least tomorrow either, so maybe you can come by some other day", she answered.

"Okay. I'll talk to you later", I said. We both said our goodbyes and we hung up. I turned to look at Ray just to meet his questioning gaze.

"She's sick", I told Ray. He nodded.

"Well, at least nothing worse has happened to her. That's good", Ray said and smiled at me as we got closer to the usual hanging out place.

When we arrived there, everyone else was already there. Since we were the last ones, the others had of course taken the bench to themselves.

"Hey, what took you so long?" Mikey asked.

"Hey, where's Lindsey?" Jamia asked before I had even time to answer the first question.

"Hey, first of all the English class isn't exactly next to this place, isn't it? And also I had to call Lindsey 'cause I was wondering the same thing. But apparently she's sick and she won't be here at least for a couple days", I answered. Mikey and Jamia nodded.

"So sorry, Jamia, you're stuck with us for now", I said. She laughed.

"Well, maybe I'll manage to handle that for a couple of days", she said.

"So, how was everyone's weekend?" Ray asked, changing the subject.

The rest of the break went by really fast as everyone answered Ray's question and soon I noticed myself running back to english class with him since the bell had already rang and like I said the english class isn't exactly next to our hanging out place. By the time we got to the english class, we were like five minutes late and we both were out of breath. The teacher wasn't happy about it 'cause we interrupted his lecture, but he let it slide this time and didn't give us detention.

"So... Are you gonna go to check on Lindsey?" Ray asked, as we stepped out of the history class. History had been the last lesson of the day so we started heading out of school.

"No. She didn't want me to go there today so I'll go there some other day. I'm just gonna go home with Mikey and Frank", I answered. Ray nodded.

"I guess it makes sense if she's really sick. She probably doesn't want you to become sick too", he stated.

"Yeah, I guess so", I said. Part of me couldn't stop thinking though if she really even was sick. Maybe she just sensed that I wanted to talk about something not so nice and she just decided to pretend to be sick? Whatever the case was, this just showed how distant we were these days. If we truly were still in love with each other, Lindsey would've let me come over, no matter how sick she was and I would've gone there, no matter how hard she would've told me not to. I would rather be sick with her than well without her. But that's not the case. She didn't want me there and to be honest I didn't necessarily want to become sick 'cause I wanted to see Frank.
