A World We Can Want

Brilliant blue butterflies
Like some mystical force
Making our feelings crystalize
This new world is a change of course
All trepidation left behind
All that is left is the warmth inside

Fluttering feelings flying throughout
Brightened colors, heightened senses
I can finally let go of my defenses
I can be free of my past doubt

This dream drowns out the sounds
Of the reality we face
Chaos and calamity surrounds
My imagination is my hiding place

People pressing down the past
Acting like everything has changed
Acting like every other week the flag isn't half-mast
Our fates are prearranged

What if this wayward world
Could change its way of living
Our lists of problems could be unfurled
And we could stop pretending

Scared to sit in the school or the cinema
Frightened of the mall
What kind of hell is this?
I'm scared to go anywhere at all

There is a world we can want
But never achieve
An inescapable fear seems to haunt
Me, and the only escape is when I dream
