Bloody greivers

A/n: just quickly this chapter is a little but grafic but nothing too bad, but here is a lot of fluff in this chapter. ⚠️Warning ⚠️ This chapter may trigger some people and also mentions suicide and hints at depression. *at the entrance to the maze*

Newt is picking of some vegetables for dinner as Athena gets back to talk to newt before lunch

"Hey newt" 

Athena says grabbing a basket to help 

" we need to clean up those vines today" 

newt says sighing " 

well start on that later, anyway lets go eat lunch. Im starving

" thena says slowly walking away waiting for newt to follow.

"Thanks frypan"

 thena says grabbing her lunch and finding a place to sit next to newt. Newt took a bite of his sandwich and watched as Athena re-assembled the parts if her sandwich to her liking and eating it peacefully

~~~time skip (after lunch)~~~

" I'm going to go clean up those vines now" 

Athena says finishing the last bite of her sandwich then she walks towards the doors of the maze and starts to clean up the vines.

" hi" 

"hello"

 newt and Athena say greeting cassy and Thomas as they come back from the maze, just before they reach the homestead they hear a terrible screech come from just inside the wall of the maze followed by Athena screaming 

" HELP, HELP PLEASE HELP" 

as she is being dragged away by a griever that followed them back from the maze newt sprints to get Thena but the doors start shutting slowly

 "newt no!" Chuck shouts not wanting to lose anyone else while Thomas and Minoh run to stop newt from getting them both stuck in the maze but newt doesn't let his limp stop him from saving Athena from a night alone in the maze, he makes it through sliding through the doors before they shut.

Newt hears her screams empowering him to keep going even through the pain in his leg. till he finds the griever dragging her with its spiked metal claw stabbed through her leg. 

"Newt!" 

Athena cry's tears streaming from her eyes. Her face red and radiating pain. Newt distracts the griever by trowing a rock at the ugly creature. It turned to Newt throwing  Thena into a wall and chasing after newt instead, newt slides into a gap in the maze confusing the griever as it gets crushed between two maze walls.

Newt runs back to thena panicking, he frantically finds Athenas limp body and cradles her in his arms repeating out loud

 "No.No.No.she cant be dead she cant be."

 It was at this moment Newt realised how much he adored Athena, the way she smiled, the way she comforts him, the fact that even after only a few days of being in the glade she already knew exactly what she wanted to do... who she wanted to be with. Newt stroked some hair out of her face letting a tear fall from his eye. Athenas eyes flutter open then said smiling 

"there there lizard boy don't cry, I'm completely fine" 

her voice was strained, it was obviously taking great effort to speak. Newt looks at her and knew exactly what he wanted to do incase he never got another chance. Newt leaned down and kissed her slowly holding her tightly thena leans up slightly with her own strength and kisses him back. 

"Well that was unexpected..." Athena said beaming through the pain. Newt blushed slightly then said 

"Im sorry that was bloody irrational Im sor-" Athena put her finger to Newts lips not allowing him to finish his sentence. She smiled and said blushing PROFUSELY

 "I liked it...lizard boy" Newt smiled back at her as they sit in peaceful silence for a while then said 

"where in the bloody shuck did you come up with that name?" Athena beamed at him through the pain and said

 "your name! You're newt and a newt is type of lizard! Don't ask me how I know I just do!" Newt smirked at her then said 

"ok if pet names are gonna be a thing then since Athena is a bloody goddess then your new name is queeny" the two of them smiled at each other for a while interlocking hands. Athena winced and squeezed newts hand tightly as she shifted her position, Her leg bleeding heavily, Newt looked at her worried for a minute thinking of a solution and  rips half of his sleeve off , wrapping it around the wound to apply pressure. 

"Here" he said as he did making sure not to hurt her. Athena smiles at him weakly and says softly 

"N-newt I-I don't feel that good." The colour drains from her face and Thena slowly drifts off into a silent almost lifeless sleep. Newt surveys her panicking again but realises she is still alive with the slow rise and fall of her chest. Newt stands up and gently rests Athenas head on the floor. He picks her up and takes her to a small crevasse behind the ivy on the wall Newt had found when he was a runner. He sat down and placed Athenas head on his lap. Watching her. Protecting her. All night Newt watched as Athena drifted in and out of conscience. In the morning Athena finally woke up and said 

"W-we probably need to get back"trying desperately to hide her pain

"the doors will be open by the time we get back" Newt says trying to distract her he kisses her forehead gently and runs his fingers through her hair. Thena smiles slightly but it was obvious that her leg had gotten more painful. Newt kisses her lovingly one more time before they make their journey back, newt helps thena up gently and protecting her leg not wanting to hurt her leg, Athena quietly whimpers with pain trying to hold it back.  not wanting to concern him any more than he already is.

They make there way back to the entrance of the maze slowly, Newt trying to hide his limp and take care of hers. Newt wanting to help Athena says

 " have you heard how I got my limp"in a sad attempt to distract her

 " N-no, what happened" Athena replies concerned about what she is about to hear "well... I came up into the glade I was 13... I felt.. alone I felt like there was something missing... so one day I woke up the crack of dawn..before anyone else, I snuck into the maze and... and I found the biggest wall I could find. I climbed to the top and I looked around...then I jumped.... I snapped  my leg in three places and I was ready to let a griever take me, But Minoh found me and brought me back to the glade... he's the only one that knows the real story... otherwise people just think I was climbing and fell, even cassy doesn't know" 

"N-Newt I'm so s-sorry" Athena replies softly trying to save her energy to get back to the glade.

" h-hey newt..I'm sorry ... i-I don't think I can go a-any further" Athena says her leg weak and her whole body aching 

" its ok queeny, its ok" newt says comforting her and he picks her up gently

 "its ok, don't  be sorry "newt turns a corner and sees the doors to the maze,

 " guys its them " chuck says getting everyones attention, cassy runs to hug her brother then realises the state Athena is in so she yells at Jeff and Clint to help, when Athena is in the med wing she starts to wake up crying with pain 

" queeny, I'm here I'm not going" newt says. Holding her hand as someone changes the makeshift bandage on her leg.

A/N: sorry for the long chapter but it was with it wasn't it, nice to see their relationship coming together, but ofc there is a lot more to come
