Macon waited almost the entire night before allowing herself to fall asleep.

Xane was not there when she'd gone to sleep nor was he there when Amrith knocked on the door the next morning.

"Morning your grace." She said lowering her head slightly.

She carried a tray in her hands.

"It's a big day, I hear. Thought you could do with the first meal."

"Thank you." Macon said as she pulled the covers over her chest.

Amrith placed the tray in Macon's lap and made her way to open the curtains.

Bright light invaded the large room.

"What time is it?"  Macon asked.

"It is nearly the 12th hour — that is why I woke you.  The Commander has made preparations for his Highness to arrive this very eve for the ceremony. And I would think that you would wish to choose your gown for the evening well before we ready you for the ceremony.  Just listen to me carry on—." The woman trailed off.

"Ceremony?" Macon questioned.

"Oh, yes dear.  Your's and the Commander's joining ceremony this evening.  The Commander had to search the rubble at the Regent facilities for hours before he found the original paperwork. He's gone just now to collect the Prince himself."

Amrith was a wealth of information Macon soon realized, and she also made a mental note not to tell her anything she might want to keep secret in the future.

Macon took in a deep breath.

Today she would become his wife.

This was big.  Too big to wrap her head around.

She bit into the scone-like bread on her tray.

Her nerves only allowed her to eat a few bites before she was up.

Moments after she'd gotten out of bed she heard Amrith clap her hands twice, and the doors to her room opened.

A small group of the female staff entered the room holding various items in their hands.

Macon was overwhelmed with the presence, but she allowed them to continue as she really had no idea what to do.

Somehow she would need to be transformed from the rumpled mess in a night gown that currently was into a bride.

She took a steadying breath.

"I can do this," she whispered as she straightened a put on a brave face.

This was what was expected of her after all.

She would marry Xane tonight.

The thought suddenly sent chills down her back.

A sweet smell emerging from the bathroom caught her attention.

The women had drawn a bath for her.

"Your bath is ready," Amrith smiled.

When the room was empty she sunk down to her knees in the bath, and soaked her long golden brown stands in the perfumed water.

After rinsing it clean, she wrung it out and twirled it on top of her head in a loose bun.

The water had begun to cool when Amrith knocked on the door before opening it.

Macon jolted against the metal tub and covered her unmentionables with the bathing linens.

If it pleases you, a show of gowns has been arranged in lounge.

Amrith laid a sheer cream colored gown atop the vanity.

After Macon had readied herself, she followed Amrith to a small sitting area at the top of the stairs.

She saw five women holding exquisite gowns.

She couldn't help but examine each one.

They were all beautifully done, and she allowed her fingers to glide delicately over each.

"Wow," she mouthed.

The second gown she came to made her heart flutter.

It was a rich blue floor length gown.  The fabric soft and was made of many sheer layers of fabric.

Tiny silver crystals encrusted the neckline.

"I'd like to try this one."  Macon said, looking to Amrith.
